Is it unreasonable to ask someone who is hosting a girl slumber party to make sure that the males of their household be separated while the girls are present in their home?

Let's assume you cannot afford to send them something equally expensive, and you don't really care enough about them to find something wonderful. Is the gift a burden, an insult and annoying? Are they reminding you that they are wealthier than you, or is it a gift from the heart? How would you react? Do you ask them NOT to give them expensive gifts any more, or do you just accept it politely and give them presents as you can and as you wish?

My niece will be having her 12 yr bday party at school. They are having a treasure hunt. Should there be goodie bags at this age and if so what do we include for this age group. We also wanted to give a small gift to the kids to thank them for helping my niece out at school. (she broke her foot) . Is the party enough to say thank you? any ideas??

Whenever you're trying to win a popularity contest is it easier to do it with being nice and inclusive or being mean and exclusive.

I feel like being nice to people is the true way of winning friends. However, so many people seem to think that if someone is exclusive and rude, they're the superior ones. I know that's wrong but I can't shake the feeling that people believe it's true.

and my own Dad died 8 months earlier so basically double the grief for me, not a pleasant situation.

This guy who knew my dad, came up to me and my mom and said:
"sh** on Tom." and walked away. We didn't even say a word.

I never have spoken to this guy in years and don't know him that well enough to even carry a conversation, but what do you think?

finding out that I am co-dependent with all of the characteristics and behavior. This is why I have trouble with people...especially at the workplace. I'm intolerable of their behavior which can be antagonizing, rude, jealous...whatever. I have always held just receptionist type jobs and others that may be on my level or above myself sometimes try to have some kind of power over me or try to make me look bad or incapable of doing my job when clearly I am capable. People are so jealous and nasty sometimes. I have always been nice to people and then some will turn on you and just be nasty out of the blue and I don't know how to take that. I try not to be nasty back because I don't want to be that way. Then they'll always, always try to be nice the next day or later that same day and by then my walls are up and eventually I don't want to even speak to them ever again. How do I overcome these types of behaviors in people. Some tell me that no one is perfect but this is ridiculous.

My flatmate doesn't clean after hisself and always has his other male friend over at all hours. I'm really not sure if he is gay or straight but hear noises coming from his room at all hours. On top of this, he doesn't clean after hisself, leaves dishes on the sink and cabinets which is just plain nasty. What can I say to get him to clean up his act?

Why is there so much "behind the back" talk and name-calling in my workplace? Not that i am complaining, but this is unsual to me. I am from India and this is the first social place i have worked at in the US. People seem to be friendly and nice but there is too much gossip between people about others. In some cases, its loud enough for others to hear. Could this be to put down a person because of competition or dislike of a person or just to get a person fired up or could it be just humor to get a person to talk with them ?

I've been married for just over three years now. I have no kids but I would like to have a family in the future, I just have some things to settle first. Anyways, people in my family and some of my friends persistently keep asking me why I don't have kids and when I'm going to start, etc. One of my friends (who got married last year) is now pregnant and expecting her first. I told her that I have names planned for when I have kids and she asked me "So what's the problem? Why are you waiting?" And another time, my mom said that I shouldn't wait so long to have kids and I should have them now because al of our parents/in laws are waiting for grandchilidren, etc. Does this mean they are looking down on me because I have no kids? I've been married the longest out of my friends and I'm the only one with no kids, and I'm the youngest in my family and the only one with no kids.
