Whenever you're trying to win a popularity contest is it easier to do it with being nice and inclusive or being mean and exclusive.

I feel like being nice to people is the true way of winning friends. However, so many people seem to think that if someone is exclusive and rude, they're the superior ones. I know that's wrong but I can't shake the feeling that people believe it's true.

Anothre note I would like to add, do you think that the most successful people are one or the other?

You catch more with honey than you do with vinegar.

I like the nice approach.

To answer your other question:

Look at the Forbes list and determine who you believe is nice or mean. I suspect you'll find the majority are "nice" people.

It is cooler to be nice because it is not easy to be so. Whereas to be mean, it is very easy.
I do not think many people actually think that rude people are superior, they just buy peace and keep quiet.
Being popular is a different ball game all together. You need an attractive personality, with good manners and courtesy to be popular. Just by being nice or mean you cannot become popular.

I'd be afraid that eventually, I'd end up with a bunch of mean friends and no nice people would want to be around me. Mean, rude superior-acting people are very insecure- try to feel sorry for them, rather than emulate them.

It depends on the kind of people you want in your life? Anyone that would be your friend strictly because you are "mean and exclusive" is a moron. Just be yourself and the right people will come into your life. There's no strategy because then you get all caught up in how mean? or how exclusive?. Just ease back and live your life.

According to the high school movies, mean is cool. (Well.... Mean Girls is an exception as it shows both nice AND nasty as being cool, but in different ways).

I'm gonna have to say that being nice seems uncool in the short term, but it gets you a lot further in the long run.... so long as it's genuine!

It is sooo much cooler to be nice rather then mean. No one wants to be around someone that is mean or rude. It just makes you look like an asshole. But if you are nice people will like to be around you, you are easier to talk to and fun to be around. So take my advice if you are a mean person. STOP BEING A JACKASS. If you are a nice person, more power to you.

Let me put it this way: would you like to have friends who would want to be friends with a mean person?

I don't relate to cool, but I do know that if you are pleasant and nice people are more likely to gravitate to you.
