I was eating donuts for breakfast, & an old lady said, "Are you sure you're not a diabetic with all that sugar?" Come to find out SHE's the diabetic.

We have an irrational belief that solving anothers' problems (sometimes imaginary) will automatically resolve our own. Sometimes it is actually rational believe it or not, I have stumbled across solutions helping out another though I try not to create imaginary problems for another. It is also true that sometimes people project their problems on those around them. Have you ever been in a situation where you are being accused of all sorts and the constant thought in your mind is "what on earth are you going on about"? Bull's eye! Classic case of projecting oneself upon another. There is a time it used to thoroughly annoy me but I now use it as a sixth sense to pick up and try understand that which is not comfortably spoken about.

Old people are sometime lonely and try to make conversation. They think health issues are the best ice-breaker, and that is all she probably meant by it. edit: don't read too much into it.
