12 yr Bday party. Goodie bags?

My niece will be having her 12 yr bday party at school. They are having a treasure hunt. Should there be goodie bags at this age and if so what do we include for this age group. We also wanted to give a small gift to the kids to thank them for helping my niece out at school. (she broke her foot) . Is the party enough to say thank you? any ideas??

Kids love goody bags at any age. As far as 12 year olds, they like stuff such as nerds, CHOCOLATE, the powdery candies, the pop rocks, gum, the novelty candies such as the candy bottles, the wax bottles, things like that. They might also like the little doo dad stuff such as novelty pencils, maybe erasers,rubber balls, the sticky toys that you throw and they crawl, glow in the dark stuff,

I think that a party is a great way to say thank you! They do that at work all of the time. :)

The party shouldn't really be the thank you, because its focus should be on your niece. Of course, having a day where cupcakes are just handed out or something would be good enough.... it seems juvenile, but even high school students get excited about food. If you do goody bags at this age, you would be better off giving them 5 bucks gift certificates for the local CD store or something like that, but since that is rather expensive, you probably wouldn't want to do goody bags. Little toys and trinkets usually aren't that cool in the grade 6/7 crowd.

You don't need to - only if you want to.

But girls seems to love those little lip gloss things, hair elastics (the covered ones), a mug with a pack of hot chocolate (for girls or boys), wendy's gift certificates. Where I live the dollar store is a great place to go for ideas.

If you can afford it, yes. Include stationary, chocolates and sweets.
