If a dollar was given to charity every time someone brought up here:
Mary! The Pope! Sola scriptura! Those statues! Confession! XYZ denomination isn't Christian! We were here first! We're right and you're wrong!
-- really, I think we'd be able to feed a lot of hungry people, don't you? ("We", because I confess I have participated in this.)

Folks, the "reformation" that brought all of this about was 500 years ago. Right, wrong, or otherwise, it's the reality present-day Christians are living with. I'm not asking for a group hug; disagreement in points of doctrine and practice is inevitable. But in these times how can we justify perpetuating rancor by continuing to nail theses to each other's doors when the world sees us doing this and rightly wonders what's so great about being Christian? How much do you think our witness has suffered because of it?

I'm seeking thoughtful answers, not diatribes, and have no predefined "best" answer in mind.

I'm supposed to go to a sweet sixteen and I really can't dance. Or maybe I should say other people can't? I like the socializing part of parties more than I do dancing. It's probably because a lot of people don't dance, they just grind. Like the girls would rub their a** on the guys while the guys just stand there or move their hips. It could get raunchy, like dry sex depending on the extent of their movements. But I'm really not into that. I don't even see how that's dancing, but it seems like that's all anyone ever does, all my friends and everyone else in school and basically everyone I associate or know. They all pressure me to dance like them and grind when it's not me. I'm more into swing dancing, that's fun. But hey, nobody does that. So how can I stay true to myself without looking like the only loser not dong what everyone else is doing? or is there no escape? Because seriously I avoid parties because I know I'll be the only one not grinding.

I work in a service industry and almost weekly (or more) clients seem to have no filters to restrain their rudeness, anger, or hostility. It's like they come into the business angry (you can tell it in their demeanor) and take it out on us. Or they just wait for one minor thing to happen and then go ballistic. Are people more short fused now days or has it always been like that? I hate my job somedays because of these whackos.

I am not Catholic, but occasionally attend with my family for the benefit of the children. Today, the homily was about the danger of alienating people who are important to you. The sermon ended with a 40 minute lecture about dressing better for church, not taking communion if not married in the church, talking, leaving early, tithing issues, etc and etc. Doesn't this seem a little ironic considering the message of the homily? In the day when the Catholic church needs members, why alienate your existing members with a lecture (whether valid or not)?

They get us up EARLY in the morning @ like 7 or 8, & then we can't be on or near the premises until 5 PM, & then we MUST be there by that time or else we'll lose our beds. Very confusing.

There are so many religions across the world. Every one thinks that only his or her religion is supreme and will ensure a berth in heaven or a good life after death. Mostly we do not have any choice in this regard and our religion is decisded by our birth. So which (if any particular) is best and in that case what about the followers of other religions. Can we say that all religions are man made and are based on the vision and imaginations of people based ontheir local area and context.

1. The cab driver lied to me today, saying that he was only gonna charge me $5 to go to the University & then switched his mind & charged me meter price when I got there.

2. The other day, I was moving stuff out of brother's house & putting it in storage, & the cab driver was rushing me & left the meter on & (I know it ain't his obligation but) if he was in such a rush, why didn't he help me? & his lame excuse was that he lied & said he has bad knees & couldn't walk up stairs. Come to find out, it wasn't true because he waited until after I paid him just before I got out of the car to tell me that nothing was wrong with his knees & that he doesn't like being nice to black people.
