Has an angel ever led you to someone who needed your help? Where you able to help that individual? What did you gain out of that experience?

An elderly female colleague of mine (who is, incidentally, the nicest woman in the world) has been reprimanded in my office for saying something was a bit queer, as in, something was a bit odd or strange - no homophobic interpretation intended at all. She's been in tears for some of the day because she's so upset. Is this an example of political correctness gone mad?

About 18 months ago, my best friend died in a car accident we had said that if either of us died we would come back and see the other person.

To cut a long story short, I have had weird goings on since. I kept thinking about going to see a medium but always got scared. Today I just had a feeling that I had to go, i goodled some numbers and it came up with the name 'silver birch' as I went to out the number in my phone I had a memo flash up with the name silver birch.

Am i reading to much into this, or should I go and see a medium and see what happens...?

From reading I have done, it seems that a the time of Jesus, Jewish culture considered marriage not merely as something to be honoured but considered it a sacred duty. The voluntary renunciation of marriage was a conception quite foreign to Judaism. Even in such heterodox, ascetic groups as the Essenes or Qumran community, sexual abstinence was partial and did not exclude marriage before joining or in the early stage of membership. As for ordinary Judaism, the father of a family considered it an important part of his parental role to arrange a suitable marriage for his sons and daughters at a comparatively early age. The fact that the Bible never makes a point of Jesus' lack of wife almost invariably prove he had one? Wouldn't for it to not to be mentioned at all, when not being married would have been an anomaly, be bizzare?

Why is the idea that Jesus may have been married so abhorrent to many Christians?

This question is primarily directed toward Christians, but please, anybody, feel free to answer.

The number one problem I have with religion (Christianity) is that it is a requirement for someone to believe in something to go to heaven.

Honestly, how can that be a standard? How can one be punished for what they believe? What I'm saying here is that maybe there are those out there that appreciate your values and even share them, but they cannot bring themselves to believe that Jesus was the son of god, that he was born of a virgin, that two people populated the entire planet, etc..

If I asked you to believe something that you didn't, could you? You could say, "okay Alex, I believe" but would you? Is believing really an option? Does anyone choose to believe one thing over another or is it within themselves they find what they believe? Is your intuition an option? Are feelings optional? Is skepticism optional? How can I accept Christ if I don't believe in him? Could anyone?

This is an extension to the question I asked about why the universe is such a big achievement

Some of the answers are basically annoyed that I asked the question, they say I shouldnt question things I dont understand or that I should 'just pray to God'

So do these people think that people shouldnt be educated? Education is based on asking and answering questions to further knowledge. Should children just accept that things are as they are? Should they 'just pray to God'?

For those who gave me those answers: Do you honestly believe this or is it that you cant understand my point?

I don't feel that I have good conversation skills. I'm okay one on one with people, but I'm usually quiet in groups. I'm also not very good at giving advice or making other people feel better when they're upset. Does anyone have suggestion on how I can improve my skills? Do I read some book ? Take a class?

Don't get me wrong, im not full of myself, of course I couldn't create the universe, I can barely make my dinner. And YES, the universe is an amazing place with things that my tiny brain cannot possibly comprehend.

But then again, I'M not an omnipotent being...

If God is all-powerful (as Christianity claims, along with some other religions too), then creating the universe wouldn't be difficult. In fact, if he was all-powerful, every task would have the same difficulty, zero.

I am not omnipotent, so really when I make a cup of tea it is actually a greater achievement than God making the universe because it has challenged my ability (albeit not much, but challenged it nonetheless)...but will anyone praise me or worship me for thousands of years? no of course not, because that would be ridiculous.

have randomly begun after the right amino acids combined together to form the first single celled creatures, then evolved eg. evolution. Religious people (Intelligent Design)argue that the diversity of life is so great that the chance of it just occuring by accident is so small as to be effectually impossible. Atheists counter that given an infinite amount of time any possibility no matter how unlikely will eventually occur. Mathematically this is true. However, I would argue that we are not dealing with an infinite amount of time. Most scientists agree that the best explanation for the begining of the Universe is the Big Bang. Life could not have existsed before that time and survived, so even though we are talking about a very long time, it is still not infinite. Therefore, is the Intelligent Design argument not correct. The likelyhood of life just happening is so unlikely as to be effectually impossible, therefore there had to be an intelligent plan in place before hand, i.e. God.
