no it's not "weird".. who can decide what's weird or not.. even regular birthdays are just made up traditions..

you can do whatever you want to remember your loss.. whether it happens on his birthday or not.

I don't think it is at all weird, and could be a really effective way to mourn, to honor and celebrate the life, to put that life and death and loss into perspective of now. I would say further, that any method that feels right to you IS right, be it a party and cake with friends who also miss him, or a quiet celebration... and I think, if you want to celebrate again next year, go for it!

No it's not weird. People have to grieve in any way they feel they need to. I lost my sister 4 years ago and I still "celebrate" her birthday by going to the cemetery and placing new flowers. You do whatever you think you need to do to work through this.

No it is not weird at all. We set up a canopy over my sister-inl-law's grave every year to celebrate her birthday. Pot luck byob! It is fun!
