Don't get me wrong, im not full of myself, of course I couldn't create the universe, I can barely make my dinner. And YES, the universe is an amazing place with things that my tiny brain cannot possibly comprehend.

But then again, I'M not an omnipotent being...

If God is all-powerful (as Christianity claims, along with some other religions too), then creating the universe wouldn't be difficult. In fact, if he was all-powerful, every task would have the same difficulty, zero.

I am not omnipotent, so really when I make a cup of tea it is actually a greater achievement than God making the universe because it has challenged my ability (albeit not much, but challenged it nonetheless)...but will anyone praise me or worship me for thousands of years? no of course not, because that would be ridiculous.

Already it appears I have some responses from people who don't understand the point....

Yes, I MYSELF couldnt create the universe...

and yes...I have the ingredients to make a cup of tea

BUT God is supposedly ALL-POWERFUL, so how would it be hard to make something if you are ALL-POWERFUL? If he were not all-powerful, then yes it would be an amazing achievement.

afallon - Making an insect would not be a fantastic feat becaue he is ALL-POWERFUL. its harder for me to clap my hands than it is for an ALL-POWERFUL being to create something.

Notice how i say ALL-POWERFUL, some people dont seem to grasp the concept

FatherMartin - what makes you think I sound envious of God? im not envious, just confused as to how an ALL-POWERFUL being could possibly do something that was a challenge to them

"Wow...I don't think I've seen a more arrogant question.

So, you're saying that you're more worth of worship because you have to put more effort into doing something than God because you believe that everything God does has no difficulty?"

No I am NOT saying that. Not at all. Im saying that I DON'T deserve worship.

livingright - haha! is that how you like to live? Don't ask questions, just trust God? I dont believe there would have been the medical science to allow most of us to live if we didn't ask questions.

questions are HEALTHY, think of education. Education is based on asking QUESTIONS and answering QUESTIONS

Do you think school kids should just pray to God instead of learning?

Smiley - EXACTLY my point. Yes the universe IS amazing, I agree. And your congratulations on my tea is welcome, but i'm not going to ask you for more praise (and as you rightly said im not going to get any more), and i'm not going to condemn you to an ETERNITY (long time) of torment because you havent congratulated me over and over and over again.

So many people respond from the human perspective. 'Well I can't do this'/'I have ingredients, God didn't'/etc. BY YOUR BELIEFS, GOD IS OMNIPOTENT. He could create everything perfectly in the blink of an eye. Makes me wonder why it took so long.

Edit: By the way, why DID it take so long? And why did he have to rest?

I understand what you are saying. But think about this please...

1. You make a cup of tea and drink it, it is gone.

2. You make a cup of tea and share it with someone and they like it and enjoy it so much they come back for more and tell others about it. True that does not make you a "god" unless maybe you have a tea business and then you just might be the "godfather" of tea.

3. God makes the universe and everything in it (including mankind). And you are right it was no big deal for Him to create anything (but He did it anyway).
The Bible says we (*humankind) was created for the pleasure of God, if you look at the # 4 you will see where we a child was created due to the "pleasure" of our human parents

4. We as human beings with minds and feelings "need" to show our love (and receive love).

After all, our human mother and father conceived us and are we not grateful to them and show our love (all the time) not just on mothers day and fathers day. You might say some of us "worship" our parents for bringing us into this world.

God created us and I am thankful for being part of His plan and I choose to worship and serve Him for making be part of that plan.

My Parents made me and I will love them for making me, but they did not "create" me.

Does that make since? I am not trying to be sarcastic by the way, just my way of thinking.

Ok, on a scale of "power to effort" you're right. I guess. Because as you say, if He is Almighty, and I believe He is, it was a walkover. He spoke, and it was so. Voila!
But He evidently enjoyed doing it and enjoys sustaining it.
Just as I enjoy reading books. I learned to read when I was 3 and by the time I was 5 I was reading classic novels. But that doesn't diminish my pleasure in it and I have no intention of stopping.
And I'm not all-powerful either. I leave that bit to God, who is better at the Almighty bit than I am.

Creating the universe is a big achievement because without the physical universe, would we have the earth & life upon it?

Jehovah God did not have any difficulty in creating the universe & all life that is present now.

Satan is the ruler of this present world, that is why there's so much suffering.

I'm glad you can make yourself a cup of tea. However I fail to see the comparsion that it is a greater achievement than Jehovah creating the universe.

I will worship only Jehovah God & no one else.

I hope your question is answered successfully!

Noone said it was difficult for him to do it. He spoke it and it happened. Sounds pretty easy to me. But we are in awe that he could create something so highly complex, with intricate pieces, and full of so much beauty and wonder. Like you said, filled with things that tiny brains cannot possibly comprehend. That is why we praise and worship Him. Not because of the difficulty, but because of the complexity, details, the life He gives us and the immense love He has for us.

I'm understanding your point but when you really think about it God deserves our respect don't you think? It's like someone respecting the acheivements of another when they know those things are not in their capabilities. To sculpt a beautiful figure may be easy to the sculptor but does that mean he doesn't deserve our admiration for it?
Worship includes respect & regarding his acheivements as awesome (as they certainly are) The human mind boggles at the vastness & accuracy of the universe & even the complexity of the human body etc and assuming you believe in a creator of those things then that creator deserves anything he asks for. Who are we to even question him or his motives? Basically we are dust & water.

well if he was omnipotent (as well as omniscient and all the other bits) then of course he could create a challenge that would be difficult to fulfill, i guess theoretically he could create a challenge that was impossible to complete - that's what all powerful means, being able to do anything, even hinder yourself to such extent that something is difficult.
also whoever or whatever did it - it is a big deal, otherwise i wouldn't be here having this discussion

Yes, creation of the universe would have been easy for God.

But its still amazing to me, because the complexity of the natural laws, and the interactions among the components of the creation are so complex that it goes beyond our comprehension. For all that humans know about science, there is still more that we don't know.

Nice job on the tea, btw. (That's all the praise you get.)

He didn't do it to be worshipped. Being creative is an act of love, other centred. We think creating the universe is great because we can not think of anything greater.

You sound envious of God. That is logical but unproductive an unnecessary since he wants to share all he has with you.

I think God is the universe, so creating yourself, and everything else at the same time is the 'most' impressive thing. I'm not too sure God retains any ability to create anything new, we all seem to expect things that have already been outlined, so God mighnt fit your description of being able to do anything at anytime with no problem - simply because he created the everything of anything once upon a time.
