They get us up EARLY in the morning @ like 7 or 8, & then we can't be on or near the premises until 5 PM, & then we MUST be there by that time or else we'll lose our beds. Very confusing.

*I'm using my school's computer in case any one of you smartasses wanna wonder how I'm homeless with a computer.

They do it to give others a chance at a bed for the night. If not there would be people standing in line for days not eating and passing out on the street and this would cause more problems. Just think if people stood in line for 4 days waiting on a room they would be weak some might be sick and get sicker.

For the rude ones out there who say get a job to a homless person listen! how can you get a job if you can't afford clothes? how can you get a job if you don't have an address? If they do get a job what kind of job will it be? if you don't have a job how much money do they have? can they buy what they need to clean up with? Now, not all homless are in the same postion.

Shelters don't check you out. The police don't do random checks in shelters, but if a homeless person needs to rousted from a doorway, some officers may check. The biggest problem with checking homeless for warrants is not very many of them have an ID. Plus, a prison offers three hots and a cot. That's not always a bad prospect compared to living behind a dumpster.

You're forgetting that the majority of shelters are run with the assistance of volunteers. There has to be supervision when there needs to be supervision...during the evening, overnight, and early morning hours. They try to fill those hours first with volunteers. And yes, almost every shelter wants the adults out pounding the streets looking for a job, working, or going to school, or they will be there forever. You're fortunate. Here we have a lottery system. Numbers are drawn at 5:30, like in a lottery, and about 40% of the people are turned away because there aren't enough beds. Be thankful for what you have.

What time limits would be acceptable to EVERYONE? None.
There are a lot of people who'd like to park themselves at shelters and live there and never leave and that's not the reason why they exist. It's to give people a fair chance every night to have shelter FOR THE NIGHT.
I have sympathy for you and hope you find a permanent home and I don't blame you for being a little hostile (any one of you smartasses) but that isn't going to help you at all.

I can't figure that out either. There is only one homeless shelter where I live that takes in men. They must be out during the day (out very early and not back until 5 p.m.). Most of the year our ground is covered in snow and it is very cold. I cannot imagine giving people a place to sleep at night and letting them freeze during the day. I realize it may not be cold where you live but that is not the point. What in the world are people supposed to do during the day?

I think the idea of sending the individual clients out early in the morning is in hopes of them becoming self sufficient, finding steady employment.... There are so many people homeless that the beds fill up quickly... Not enough resources to handle the load of newly homeless single mothers with children, families with children.... God bless****

Because they need to clean the place up and, given the lazy nature of some of the people who live in homeless shelters... those people would never get out of bed or go out onto the streets but would just lay around all day complaining about how society wasn't doing enough for them.
