My neice is turning five and has had ear tubes in for a little over 1 year. She is now saying that her ears hurt and there is clear fluid coming out of her ears (like a runny nose). She's had a fever off and on since yesterday. Could she still get an ear infection? Since it's Saturday, do we take her to urgent care, or wait until Monday and take her to her pediatrician?

i'll be bbabysitting my best friends kids tonight a boy one year old and a two year old girl, they are pretty well behaved. any tips you could give me? i am 24, but i have minimal experience with babies, first hand. like what should i do to keep them happy for 4 hours, then off to bed. toys, movies? maybe a movie, cartoons before bed, to 'wind down'? also i get scared being home alone, lol. so is it wrong to let them fall asleep on the couch, and just stay there with them till mom gets home? or shoul di carry the one upstairs, and the other to the downstairs room where they normally sleep. they have abig house, i can see myself getting all scareed if the one upstairs starts crying and i have to walk upo there lol. they have 2 big dogs, so i am sure i will feel safer than i do when i am home alone at my house with only a few finches lol. hope you don't think im crazy lol

I think i am a good mom, but people tell me that my 2-yr-old daughter only cries and whines when i am in the room. When she is whining about something, i want to see what is wrong because i know that she can't communicate properly with me yet. But when i know she is whining i tell her to be quiet. she threw a fit at the mall the other day cause she didn't want to go home, and my friend told me her kids would never act like that, and if they did she would spank them many times.
Do i need to be stricter? she's a sweet child besides the occassional fits with me.

My 11 year old son is very popular in school and a real cute kid. He just has one really bad habit that I worry about. I thought he had stopped. The other day I just happened to look in through the family room window (he was watching tv just in from school) and saw him furiously picking his nose for several minutes and the finger always went directly from nose to mouth like he used to do around me when he was younger. When I confronted him on it he says he never does it in school or around people but can't help it if he is alone because he still really likes doing it....he admitted he likes the salty taste..yuck! My main concern is that he will slip up and get caught and get a bad rep.but so far no problem.

Any other parents have a kid with this habit and if so how old were they when they finally stopped?..and what made them stop? If older do they still do it in private and is that okay? For now he swore he would not to do it in public or around people so I kind of let it go.

Our daughter isn't ready to be potty trained yet, but is able to let us known when she needs/wants her diaper changed. My husband is usually home with her. He lets her keep playing till she asks to be changed. Sometimes, by the time she asks, her diaper is saturated, or has been messy for an hour (RARELY had any leaks). He's tried asking her sooner, and she'll say it's fine. She shows no signs of diaper rash or discomfort. If she's not getting rashes, and isn't bothered by it, does her diaper need changing right away?

My husband and I are nervous about how our 2 yr. old daughter will react to a sister. She loves to touch my belly and feel the baby move, but we don't think she understands that it is going to stay in our family. And that she is the big sister. What should we do to make her feel more comfortable.

My nephew is 3 and he has been exhibiting odd behaviors lately that concern me. I realize not all children develop at the same rate, however, his speech is almost not understandable. He will sit and stare at the television with his tongue hanging out and "wringing" his hands. He has horrible temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way and often he will just race from one room to another. Is this normal (I don't recall either of my children or any toddlers I've ever known to exhibit this kind of behavior) or should I suggest my sister have him checked out?

My daughter has just gone from a cot to mattress on the floor. I can not keep her in bed, I have tried every thing i can think of. She keeps getting up and walking out to the lounge wanting to sleep in my bed or she wants me to sleep with her. I have tried the tough love metod where you let them sream and though tramums till she falls asleep but, she get too worked up and is sick everwhere. I have tried laying with her singing, reading and rubbing her back but she then play with it and will not sleep.
She also will not eat when with me. At day care she will eat the right amount for her age but at home she will eat very little. For example breakfest she will have 1/2 a piece of toast and that it,Lunch a very small tub of yogurt and 5 grapes. Dinner she will only eat the meat and if she does it will be only 4 small squares.I have tried giving her different foods but no luck. I cut down on her water and juice intake but that did not work.she only wieght 11kg and is 90cm tall,i need help.

some nights my daughter does not eat very much dinner. my feels that my daughter should not go to bed with out eating very much. so after bath time she gives her some fruit. must nights she won't go to sleep right away. some nights she throws a fit and some nights she just lays in bed awake. just tonight she only had one bite of her dinner, after bath she had some pears. (all fresh fuit, nothing from a can) I then tried to put her to bed and she cried for her mommy for 1/2 hour maybe 45 min. she then came into the room and tried to calm her down. took another 20 min before she went to sleep.

My four year old step-son has been a really really good kid most of his life. In October all hell broke loose. He went to his fathers for the weekend and when he came back, he was very violent and angry. Things got better after 2-3 days, but then after he went back, they have gotten worse until the point of breaking both of our spirits and stressing us to the point of insanity.
A few examples: He now acts aggressive and defiant all the time. Marking on the walls with crayons and flipping when he is discovered. Acting terrified of me. Saying that things are happening to him, even when no one is around for them to happen ( we could be in the next room and he would say we were hitting him on the head for example). many many others, but those are the ones I have space for.
What is wrong with him and what should we do?

my husband and i can't even carry on a conversation without him constantly saying "mama" or "dad" about 10-15 times to get our attention. and when we ask him what, he'll make something up just so our attention is focused on him.

we tell him that mommy and daddy are trying to talk about something and he doesn't need to interrupt, but yet not even a minute later, he'll start doing it again..

he's an only child. is this normal- or is he so spoiled snotty rotten that he actually believes all attention should be on him contantly?
Has anybody else had this problem with their children?
