My 11 year old son is very popular in school and a real cute kid. He just has one really bad habit that I worry about. I thought he had stopped. The other day I just happened to look in through the family room window (he was watching tv just in from school) and saw him furiously picking his nose for several minutes and the finger always went directly from nose to mouth like he used to do around me when he was younger. When I confronted him on it he says he never does it in school or around people but can't help it if he is alone because he still really likes doing it....he admitted he likes the salty taste..yuck! My main concern is that he will slip up and get caught and get a bad rep.but so far no problem.

Any other parents have a kid with this habit and if so how old were they when they finally stopped?..and what made them stop? If older do they still do it in private and is that okay? For now he swore he would not to do it in public or around people so I kind of let it go.

I recall I was a booger eater upto about the 4th-6th grade area. I got busted once in class doing it and the kids all made fun of me on a daily basis for a long time. That of course cured me for good. I bit my fingernails too to trim them down instead of using fingernail clippers. After that incident, I couldn't even bite my nails anymore cuz they would say "look, he's at it again".

I guess you can say what you will to him, but he's going to do what he wishes when he thinks no one is looking. Hopefully he doesn't get busted in school doing it, because the teasing isn't a one day deal.

I have to admit that I did it to, and sometimes I catch myself doing it when I 'm home alone and bored. A lot of people did it as kids, and some still do it today as adults. If he does do it at school one day, the kids will probably just joke about with him. It probably won't be a big deal.

one thing you should teach him to use tissue whatever he has something stuck in his nose and if he does pickin his nose again you can tell him if you do that you will have a blooding nose and its not good doing that and also tell him that you must wash his hands with soap and dry them . or you can tell his teacher that he has this habbit and they can watch him in the class room if he does touch his nose again and have him wash his hands before he touch something or spread his dirty germs to some body else . when course when youre do get older as adults some ppl does blow their noses in privated or they also do it in person where alot of people standing near by.so the best way you can do for youre son is tell him not to use his fingers and just grab a clean tissue and blow youre nose then threw it away into the trash can and wash youre hands with water .

I would say no... If it continues it could cause others to isolate and tease him. Find something to replace it with like crackers or something else salty.. It can grow into a habit like biting nails etc (which you know continues into adulthood).

If any 11 year old is still eating burgers then they need to be told not to you should not eat burgers ever even if you are a baby but anyone over the age of 3 needs to be taught a lesson.
