My neice is turning five and has had ear tubes in for a little over 1 year. She is now saying that her ears hurt and there is clear fluid coming out of her ears (like a runny nose). She's had a fever off and on since yesterday. Could she still get an ear infection? Since it's Saturday, do we take her to urgent care, or wait until Monday and take her to her pediatrician?

She obviously has fluid in her ears which could turn into a nasty infection if it doesn't drain. It sounds like she already has an infection since her temp is up and she is having pain. I would take her to urgent care. The longer you wait, the worse it could get.

Yes she can still get ear infections... Wait until monday then call the doc who did the procedure... Just give her Tylenol, and motrin for pain and fever.. Once they get tubes, there is a 30% chance of getting an ear infection, but will drain out, that it what the tubes are there for jsut imagine how mcuh more pain she would be in if all of the was behind her ear drum... For now, you can also clean her ears with peroxide and a qtip.. then drip a few drops of the peroxide into each ear... do not put anything in her ears other than that. it has to derain out... but I was told that if you don't have the drops that was left over from the predure then use peroxide.. Also you may notice a rotten kind of smell coming from her ears, and that is normal too.... Good Luck

I went through the exact same thin last saturday with my 2yo. I called the doctor and he said it could wait until monday, but I took him to urgent care anyway and I am glad I did. He did have an infection in both ears and the right one had ruptured. Please don't wait. It is not worth it. Get her feeling better now, not two days from now. Good luck and give her lots of kisses!
