My five year old daughter has decided that she is going to throw fits about food. Dinner comes along and she either won't eat it or just throws a fit about it. Then the second she is done she wants a snack. When I tell her no or take her dinner away she just throws and even bigger fit. At other times than meal time she says shes hungry but everything I offer she says no too. ANd then when i tell her no she throws a fit. Like now, I made hamburger helper and she always eats it. But today she has decided to say I am not going to eat it and now she is starting with i'm hungry. It is such a battle, I am sick of yelling and putting her in her room. What do I do?

The babysitter is 14. She is red-cross/ CPR certified. How much should I pay her to watch 2 kids (3 and 5) per hour. Probably from 6:30 PM - 1:30 AM. Do they get paid more for being up late?

Why is it when I take my son out into public and he is acting up others treat me like crap, like I'm a bad mom?
I'm not, and I will NEVER be a bad mom.
My son has ADHD and SPD so he is always grabbing at stuff and miss behaving.

but other parents who have always had great well behaved children don't understand. Should I start explaining to everyone to try to change there way of thinking?

Because other parents with children that have ADHD or SPD understand that there children can not control there out bursts and the parents have a hard time calming them down.

but do you think it would be such a bad thing to put the other parents in there place and educate them a little on this HIDDEN DISABILITY when they say something mean or give me a bad look?

But they don't believe it should be outlawed? I do NOT believe spanking is child abuse but I don't understand how people can say it is child abuse and it shouldn't be outlawed. I mean, you either support spanking or you don't right? Does that mean they think child abuse should be legal?

Before you ask I feel spanking is a very effective form of discipline.
Parent's don't want to spank but it is sometimes necessary
Parent's don't spank to hurt their children...they do it to get their attention.
Parents who spank also use other forms of discipline.
Parents who spank aren't afraid of disciplining their children.

Parent's who don't spank have perfect children (yeah right)
Parent's who don't spank are more concerned about being friends with their children rather than parents.
Parent's who don't spank have very young children and haven't been put in that situation yet (That used to be me)

But then again, that is just my opinion?

She says it is fine becuase her child has the dog and the walkie talkie and becuase it is close and she can clearly see the park from her driveway. She defends herself by saying that once her kid came home because their was some teenager there on the swings that 'gave her the creeps' and so she came home... she thinks that proves her kid is responcible and she checks on her kid on the walkie talkie every 5 mintues or more...

This seems young to me... her kid also gets the mail with the dog... which is 7 houses down (and around a corner)..

Is it just me.. or is 7 way to young!

A babysitter is there to take care of your child/children when you are not present such as working mothers or just a night out. Nanny's on the other hand are there taking care of a child while the parent is present, such is the case with most celebrities. If the parent/parents are present why have a nanny when instead the child could be cared for by the parents. Is child development and child care no longer in the hands of parents anymore, specially those who are in high society?

A couple we hang around with is not in control of their child and when we try to discipline our daughter in their presence the husband will almost always question our reasoning or method. for instance. He asked if our daughter could have Coke w/ her lunch ...( I said no, We just give it as A treat)....he gave me a strange look and said..." how would you like it if someone was telling you what to do all the time" ....Its strange but he seems to think like the parent that wants the kids to think hes cool or something or a good buddy without setting limits. He interferes with our discipline because if it.

in any situation they found themselves in as adults? Meaning, single parenthood, living with their partner and their children without getting married, whether they were gay or lesbian, or any other situations that are routinely judged. If you weren't happy and or accepting of them in any situation, isn;t that basically saying I love you, with conditions?

I personally will be happy with any decision my child makes for her life if it makes her happy,in regards to her sexuality, her decision to marry or not to marry, decisions to have children or not, etc.

My last name is hyphenated with my maiden name and married name. I have thought about hyphenating my childs name as well-- but will this cause him grief over the years? My husband is fine with it-- but we also dont him hating it or being made fun of for it. Our little guy is due in March and we have been kicking around the idea-- but I am really just not sure. Is there anyone out there who has hypenated their childs name and they are say in the teens now? How is it for them? Any thoughts?

My daughter is 13 and has never liked school. Recently though, she's stubbornly refused to do her homework. A couple of times, she has refused to go to school! She is falling really far behind and risks not graduating. I know she's nervous about going to high school next year. I'm just so worried about her. I feel like I've tried everything (grounding, removing priviliges, rewards, etc.). Anybody have any better ideas? Even just a little empathy would be appreciated!

I live in texas and I have a 9 month old son with my Exbf. He did not sign the acknowledgement of paternity papers at the hospital so there for I am the legal guardian. We were going to make arrangements for him to keep him this past weekend but he could not stop and talk civil to me. All he was doing was calling me name and hanging up.No arrangements were set in stone. He ended up calling the police on me and telling them I was keping his son from him. The police and him came over to my house and I was scared out of my mind. I am the legal guardian and I wanted him off my property so the police had him leave and explained with out a court order I dont have to give him the child. (its not that I didnt want him to see him, his tone and the names he called me scared me) I have started the process for child support but have decided to retain a lawyer given the circumstances. I dont have my appointment till 1/30 though. I am so scared of what he will do in the mean time. Any advice???

i have seen so many questions in this section that are just ignorant. most are made up, and i keep thinking, this question needs a thumbs down. but i can't. i think they should bring them back, and if the question gets enough thumbs down, it should be deleted. no points taken from the asker, but still removed. i mean, who doesn't give their 3 year old a bath? seriously ....that asker is just trying to irritate people...same goes for the guy with all the "is this racist" questions. just wanted to know what you all thought.

I have a 12 yr old boy and a14 yr old girl, their grandma and their dad argues alot in front of them and even tries to bring them in on it. Their dad and grandma are allways saying bad things about me(their mother) that are not true, This upsets my kids to where they are crying. They came home this weekend and told me that their dad got in an arguement with their grandma and my son asked his dad why did he get a divorce with his mom, his dad told him that his mom was a slut and she slept around on him and he has more rights to them than she does. This upset my kids real bad and they came home and told me what he said.
what he said was not true at all, and i left him, not the other way around. Is this mental child abuse? oh, i almost forgot to say that i dont talk bad about their dad or anyone in front of my kids. All i could say is that he didnt tell the truth.
