I have two boys, 16 months, and 4 years, and my 4 year old is always asking me to take a bath, or shower with him. I am wondering at what age is it not ok to bath with your kids?

I have read some of the responses and to be honest I am slightly concerned.
I think your 4 year old is asking for some 1 to 1 time and what a better place to have some fun together than in the bath with bubbles and splashing and singing.
I am not ashamed of my body and neither would I want my children to be, I still jump in the bath with my 8 yr old daughter if she asks, but when it comes the time that she wants to cover up i will respect that.
I think they become more curious when you hide away, would you prefer to answer any questions yourself or let someone else answer them !!!

As a parent of 3, I don't understand the purpose of adults bathing with children. What's the purpose? I never got in the bathtub with my children to bath them. I certainly don't feel that it's appropriate for a mother to be bathing with a 4 year old boy. I don't think that it's appropriate for a father to be in the shower with his daughter at 4, or 3 or even at 2 or 1. This is the same for the mother and her son. I don't think that it's appropriate for an adult to bath with a child after the child is able to stand and walk on their own.

I think the best time to stop is when he starts asking questions about your private areas. I believe when a child is old enough to realize that boys and girls have different "parts", then they are old enough to take a bath on their own (supervised of course).
Have you tried bathing both of your boys together? Perhaps your 4 year old is more comfortable with someone in there with him.

I would say 6 years old. I bathed with my mom until I was like 7. My daughter is 4 and every once in a while, she wants me to get in with her. I don't see a problem with it!

I think I stopped bathing with my son when he was around 3 or 4.We were in the tub and wanted to know why I had 2 butts. That pretty much decided it for me.

In my opinion if you wore a pair of shorts in the tub or shower with your son, that would be ok but I would never be naked in a child in the shower or tub. Sometimes it's ok because a child is scared to be alone in the bathroom, however, this should be discouraged as as the child gets older he should bath himself with mom and dad out of the bathroom. My son was afraid of the shower and I put on a pair of shorts and got in with him at age 3 but by the time he was 4 he was ok with showering alone. Many may disagree but that is how I handled that.

It all depends on whether you have boys or girls. It is totally up to you, but most of the time when a little boy starts asking questions about your body, that you are uncomfortable answering, its time to stop. But you can bathe with your children for as long as you want. Everyone is going to have different opinion about this question, but you should use your instincts.

I think between 4 & 5. You still need to be in the bathroom while he's in the tub of course, but you can just tell him that you are already clean & don't need a bath/shower.
