I think that if the parent is paying $7 per hour, that's enough. IT would be risky to ask for more than minimum wage, in my opinion -- what if they just find another, cheaper babysitter?

The going rate when I live is 5 bucks an hour per child. That's what my 17 yr old gets paid. She doesn't ask for that much, she just tells them she'll accept whatever they want to give her. She babysits for 2 families who pay more, but for the most part, they almost all pay out 5 an hour per kid. I wouldn't think it should make a difference if it's a relative you're babysitting. Someone is going to have to babysit, and if it's you, then you should be paid the same as your parents would have paid an outside sitter. But the two of you together are getting paid $7 an hour for one child, so that seems very fair to me. If you want to earn more money for babysitting your brother, you could always talk to your parents and suggest that you be left in charge only, and that you won't rely on your twin to help in any way shape or form...but then again, your twin might want the money too.

If it's your brother you shouldn't get paid at all, you should do it out of the kindness of your heart. But when I was in high school (in the 90's) I charged $8 per hour to babysit and I was CPR certified also. If you want a certain amount it is easier to give your rates up front otherwise just ask for more.
Also if you are babysitting with someone its not like you're doing all of the work yourself anyway, so of course you should split the $7. Maybe if you were doing it by yourself. When my sister babysits my 3 boys I give her $30 for the whole day and only $10 if it is for a few hours.

I just want to make sure I understand: You and your twin babysit together ~ and each of you is paid $3.50 (for a total fee of $7.00 and hour.) You, however, are CPR trained and took babysitting class (and I gather that your twin did not.) Is that right? And it is your twin who is your brother ~ and not the one-year-old, correct?

If all of that is correct, I would say that the pay if fair.
You are only caring for one child ~ and there are two of you to handle the responsibility. Paying $7.00 for one child sounds fair. I have three children, and I usually pay about $10.00 an hour.

i know it might be your brother you are watching but it is very hard to watch a 1 year old period but i see you have your sister their too. if this is you only income maybe you need to ask for a little more but remember this is your brother ... but just sit down with your parents and try to work something out that can be good for the both of you the reason why your are not getting a lot is that is your brother and you are working with someone else if it was just you you might just get more..if you want to ask for a little more just sit your parents down and tell them how hard it is for you to watch him and tell them that you have taking classes and you know CPR which is a good thing because most people that babysits their family member or someone Else's child don't have that type of training

Not enough, it don't believe that's enough money for 1 person I think $5 is a good amount. Does your bro do any of the work, I mean if he's doing half and your doing half then I think that the amount is good enough for 2. (2 people babysitting is way easier than 1)(sucks if your doing all the work) Anyway it's all up to the parents of the kid your sitting to give you more money.

That is a lot. I'm CPR trained and took babysitting classes and i babysit 2 kids. One 2 year old and one 7 year old. I only get 2.00 per child an hour. So your getting quite a bit of money.

I don’t know what the going rate is these days, it was 50 cents/hr when I did it but that is dating myself, but I would imagine it would be on your location just like in Alabama a person does not get the same wage as a person in the northeast or California. A way to get a higher wage would be to offer to do the dishes or vacuuming or some other house work while sitting but not to much as the primary job is to take care of and amuse the child.♪

You should at least get payed minimum wage, like 5 or 6 dollars an hour, especially since you are CPR trained and took bbsitting classes.

If you babysit for someone other than family I would say that $5 an hour is fair and that just because your twin is with you doesn't mean you should get more. I think that what your parents are giving you is fair, if you were to do it by yourself you'd be getting $7/hour.
