Oh no especially if that's the only thing you can read.

This is a question I deal with a lot. My son has about 200 books. If not more. They all are important to him he says.
What I did was set up an account at paperbackswap.com. He now has a bunch of books to give away and when the person they are being sold to gets them then the sender gets 1 point. One point is enough to get another book. Yes, you still have a lot of books, but now your child is able to get books from their age range.
Also I made my son go through his books and give some to the school for the library. They really can use them! Now about once a month on his own he takes two or three to the school.
This is what we do, no new books in until some are out. It seems to work. Of course their are some books that the family doesn't want to get rid of. We save them in boxes or display them in our book case. When he has children he'll have books for the child.

You cannot have enough! Children read and re-read all
their books. They stimulate their imagination and give
them little windows on the world they wouldn't get from
anywhere else. It is the kind of interactive relationship
where all things become possible and builds dreams.
When the books reach the ceiling, go through them
with your child and let them decide which books will
be donated. Then go out and get some more. Building
them their first library is a fun project...you can paint the
different sections in colors according to the themes, etc.

NEVER! My kids have their own personal library! I counted them one day and we had 437 books; and I've bought about 30 or 40 more since then. I started buying childrens books when my oldest was a year old; he's now 11. I have books for every age group in my house; including about 600 adult books, which my older kids do read. I think that learning to read and knowledge from books is a grand thing. And I have 6 kids who are very smart and do great in school!

Nope! I have never counted, but I would bet I have over 300 children's books in my home! I think books are sooo important! My son chooses 6-8 books/night for me to read to him...and some throughout the day!

No of course not ,It gives a wide variety , My kids have over 500 books i used to work at Golden Books and my son is just now learning to read and in school they have to read a book every single night and it is nice not to have to be at the library so much and still have a large selection for him to choose from.

What a classy problem! Having so many choices in front of your children can only create for your children a wonderful relationship with books. Your children are very lucky to have so many avenues of discovery in front of them!
good for you!

NO, JUST DON'T HAVE THEM ALL OUT ALL OF THE TIME. ROTATE THEM, THEN THEY'LL SEEM LIKE A NEW READ. YOU CAN ALWAYS GIVE SOME AWAY IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE TOO MANY OR SELL THEM.
