Newborn & Baby - October 2007

My daughter is three weeks old and I think she is going through a growth spurt. We had established a pretty good routine during the day where she would eat, play, and then sleep. The past couple of days, she has wanted to sleep almost constantly during the day. Is this normal or should I be worried? Thanks!!

Seeing as a can of the 'best' formula out there is roughly $30, and knowing how much better breastmilk is than any formula, how much do you think the same amount in breastmilk would run if sold in stores?

(I mean from mothers who are perfectly healthy and pre-approved to have their milk distributed. Breastmilk is breastmilk, no matter who it's from. That's why hospitals take donations of it.)

or if your baby eats solids now, when did you start? My son is 6months, and now eats many different foods (rice cereal, fresh bananna, peach, pear, applesauce, sweet potatos, squash, peas). Im just wondering if maybe i started too early (i started rice cereal when he was 4.5 months, and fruits at 5months, im waiting to do meats until his 6mo apt)...but he is doing just fine, no bad reactions, i wait 3days before introducing a new food.

What is the one thing, besides the obvious car seat, diapers....etc. that every new baby or mother needs? Is there something you weren't sure you would use much in the beginning but now wouldn't have done without it?

I have a 6 month old who sleeps through most of the night. Lately he's been waking once or twice a night but I give him his pacifier a d rub his head for a little bit and he will go back to sleep. But he's been waking at 7:00 am lately and the only way for me to get him back to sleep then is to lay him with me. Then he'll sleep til 8:30-9:00 am. He has a full bottle and either veggies or cereal. He's also teething. Are there any suggestions to how I can get him to sleep longer? I know many parents say not to let baby sleep with you b.c he will not want to sleep in the crib but he does sleep in his crib and he is only sleeping with me for an hour or two. Is this ok?
Thanks for the help.

Remember life before breastfeeding? I barely do and don't get me wrong and I love BF my son but things I miss are:
Drinking real milk not soy milk
Eating cheese
Chinese food!!!!
Fast food
One size breasts at all times
Drinking an occasional alcoholic beverage

You know now that I see what I have typed maybe I should breastfeed forever!! I'm much healthier this way!!

I am a father of a boy (1 year and 2 months). And in my opinion there is no way that my wife, the mother of my baby whom is a wonderful mother, the best he could have ever had, is a better parent than I am.

I love my son, I could not live with out him and it is painful when I hear people saying that Mothers are more important.

My right breast produces more milk than my left. I let her eat off the left first, but just as ofter as the right. Is there way to increase my supply. I plan on trying to have her latch onto my left more ofter, and pump if I can. Is there anything some of you suggest besides those things? Thanks.

I know that we have vaccinations for a reason; to prevent the certain desease to come back, right? Well, for example, Polio, it is pretty much emiminated in the USA, however it is NOT in other countries, so I know that since parents know it is gone here in the USA it can't come back, but IT CAN and that is why we still use this vaccine, because even though it is not present, it CAN come back, so why do people think this way? (And this is for other dieases as well.)

Also, other dieases are showing up more and more because parents are not vaccinating, so why exactly are people against vaccinating, when the diseases are not totally eliminated?

I vaccinate my child.
