Why not wait until she can decide. Piercings are for life. You shouldn't make that decision for anyone, even if they are your children. Its not like cutting their hair, which can grow back, or making them wear certain clothes, which they can change. This will be with them forever. Wait until she is old enough and then ask her.
As for the pain, why would you put a baby through the pain that you don't think a10 year old could cope with?

It is safe to have a child's ears pierced anytime after 4 months old when they've had their second set of shots.
If you make the decision to do it, please make sure you do not take your child to anyplace that uses a piercing gun. Piercing guns are very dangerous. First is the sterilization issue. A piercing gun cannot be properly sterilized (meaning in a n autoclave) because they are made with plastic parts. This means the person being pierced can and will come into contact with the blood and tissue of the people pierced before them...a major infection issue. Also, it uses a tremendous amount of force to push a dull post through the earlobe, essentially ripping a hole in it, causing tissue damage to the ear. This is also the cause of the tremendous amount of pain people talk about. (anyone pierced by a professional will tell you the pain is minimal). And the earring back is put on so tightly, there is no room for the wound to breathe and heal. Are their risks to piercings? Of course but the odds of those risks change greatly depending on the method you choose.
If you make the decision to have your child's ears pierced please take them to a professional piercer. If they aren't old enough (and obviously babies are not) please have it done at the pediatrician's office. They use sterile, disposable equipment and the earring itself does the piercing. And remember, you are the mother. Make the decision that you feel is best for your child and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. Good luck to you.

Everyone kept telling me to get my daughters ears pierced when she was a baby, but I felt it best to wait until she was old enough to ask for them. What if she NEVER wanted her ears pierced in the first place. When she was a baby who was asking HER if she wanted it done? No one.
It's her body.
When my daughter was five years old she asked me if she could get her ears pierced so I took her and got it done.
My daughter got her daughter's ears pierced when she was an infant because she was sick and tired of everyone saying "Oh what a cute little boy." After getting her daughters ears done an old man saw the baby in Wal-Mart and stated,
"Who pierced that boys ears!" My daughter just sighed and walked away.

My mom got my ears pierced at 4 months. I know it's actually better to get them done when they are young like that because then they can heal without a child pulling on her ears all the time because there is something there. I know my mom got my ears pierced because I had such blonde hair it looked white so everyone kept calling me a boy so she pierced my ears and then everyone knew I was a little girl. I'm happy that she did. It's really up to you on if you do it or not. I know when my little girl is 4 months I'm going to pierce her ears.

Well...it's up to you. I'm 19 and I HATE that my mother got my ears pierced as a baby. The holes won't close and I never wear earrings, so I just have purposeless holes. My daughter is 3 1/2 months, and I'm waiting till she ASKS.
(Besides, I personally think babies look ridiculous in earrings, like the mother WANTS the little girl to be older than sh eis.)

My personal thought is wait until they are old enough to ask for them, and to properly take care of them themselves.
If you MUST do it when your child is an infant, PLEASE go to a reputable piercer or ask your pediatrician if that is a service they provide. Be advised if you go to the mall, or some place that uses the gun, you are getting someone that might have at BEST gotten two weeks training, which sometimes only includes practicing on a teddy bear and watching it done.
