or if your baby eats solids now, when did you start? My son is 6months, and now eats many different foods (rice cereal, fresh bananna, peach, pear, applesauce, sweet potatos, squash, peas). Im just wondering if maybe i started too early (i started rice cereal when he was 4.5 months, and fruits at 5months, im waiting to do meats until his 6mo apt)...but he is doing just fine, no bad reactions, i wait 3days before introducing a new food.

My nursling is now 9 1/2 months old and still only eats maybe one meal worth of solid food in a day. He doesn't really have much interest in solids, so I'm not pushing it. He is growing just fine and dandy without me trying to get him to eat more. However, when he does eat babyfood his favorite thing in the workd is sweet potato and apples.

My DD is 5 months old and were waiting still. I guess I choose this route cause I'm a nurse and I read a lot of information on the subject and felt this was the best route for me and my DD. I'm planning on making my own. I don't plan on using rice cereal but rather avocado, sweet potato and banana. I do plan on trying to make my own cereal's 2. I'm not sure how she'll like it but I wanna try it this way. Don't feel bad. You made a choice and your little one seems fine. Everyone had to make choices that are right for them and their family. I know they say to start solids at 6 month or later but there is so much information out there its hard to know whats really best. I always say go with what your gut tells you.

I started with my first the day she turned 6 months (it's a big deal for a lot of parents when their child hits that milestone). However, I learned a lot between her and my second child. He didn't start until I knew he was ready, around 8 months. I realized waiting helped his oral skills that much better and he was better equipped to handle the food in his mouth and keep it in, unlike my daughter. I also think that starting just at 6 months encouraged my daughter to wean prematurely from the breast!

I will say though, that it is encouraged for a breastfed baby to wait for solids until at least 6 months because of potential allergies. However, a formula fed baby is suggested to start solids around 4-5 months (yes allergies are still an issue), because formula's nutrient make-up does not change to suit the child's needs (while breastmilk does) and so need to start solids sooner to help with this problem. And really, as long as you are breastfeeding, there is no rush to start serving meat. All the babies I know didn't like the taste of meat and some of their pediatricians (mine included) said to cover it with fruit. To me, babies are the utmost of purity and know what they should or should not eat! My kids had/ have no problem eating veggies as well as fruits and whole grains and they are not missing out (of course we are now vegetarian, but my daughter wasn't for her first two years of life and she got only fruits, veggies and whole grains then as well). Just a few thoughts to consider!

I'll start my daughter on different rice cereals at 4 months (now 3 1/2), and then a little solids at 5 months, then full-on solids at 6 months! I don't want to overload her little body too early on foods it's not used to...some mommies do that and I just feel sorry for the poor things because it really messes with them.

My second child is also 17.4 lbs and six months. Nothing but mama milk for him--Breastmilk IS enough. It's the best, most perfect food there is. He's a big boy, but I trust the ability of my body to make food tailor made for his needs.

I figure I'll introduce solids in a couple months. Even then, I'll be skipping that nutritionally worthless processed box cereal.

I introduced avocado at 6 months, but he was not interested. I stopped and waited a while until he seemed ready. He did not take to solids until about 8-9 month, and only took to it slowly. He still eats very few solids now at 11 months and nurses like crazy, but is healthy as can be! I started with avocado, then moved to zucchini, and then tried different vegetables after that, all homemade.

about a week before she turned 6 months we started.

rice cereal for a few days, then moved on to veggies and fruits... following the usual few days of reaction time before introducing something new. though by 9-10 months, we just sort of started doing anything aside from the normal dairy,nuts,fish...

I wanted to delay more, but hubby wanted to try, was getting pressure from others - I wish I'd waited longer, though she has no food allergies at 4 years old now. I wish I'd found this article back then to back me up, and shut up the rest of them!!

If he's fine, why are you worrying? Relax, moms have enough to worry about without creating worries in our minds.

Most guides will recommend that you wait the full six months to introduce solids, but many moms start their babies earlier. As long as you're not giving him foods from the allergen watch list (which it sounds like you're not) or giving him foods that are too solid for him to handle, your son should be just fine.

I plan on giving my son homemade babyfood around 6 months. Just steamed pureed vegetables and pureed fruits though. Maybe some pureed brown rice cereal or something too. Just no meat/egg/dairy or anything like that for us.
