My daughter had thrush when she was just a couple months old and the doctor prescribed a medication that is normally given to women with yeast infections. I cannot recall the name but it is fairly new to the market (released within the last two years).

Call your doctor and let him/her know that the thrush is not going away. It can be hard to get rid of.....make sure to sterilize all bottles, nipples, pacifiers, and anythhing else he puts into his mouth.

It will go away but may take some time....good luck, I know it can be frustrating.

You don't say how old your baby is and whether it is interfering with him eating. Your not using your mouth to clean off his soother are you? You may be inadvertently passing it back to him that way.

If it's not interfering with him taking his bottle, it should clear up on it's own once you start introducing him to various foods. If he is close to being able to start stage 1 foods, give him yogurt if he is not lactose intolerant - the bacteria in that will help to stabilize the mouth environment so that it's not so yeast friendly.

Remember that generations ago, there was nothing used, babies just had to grow out of it and yours will too.

Is he nursing? I had a friend who had a bad case of thrush, and kept trading it back and forth with her son.

I also had a good friend (insanely intelligent) who would break open an acidophilus caplet and spread the oil inside on her daughter's mouth.

Good luck. Poor chap.

I'm not sure of the proper name of this medicine, but your pharmacist should know. It's something violet, it's a purple color that you apply by a dropper in the mouth. It's sold over the counter and has worked for my son.

Grapefruit Seed Extract and probiotics.

Don't forget you have to treat mom as well, particularly if breastfeeding. But even if you aren't breastfeeding treating mom with GSE and acidophilus has no risk.

Are you breast feeding? The yeast could be on your breasts and even though you've cleaned, you can't really get it off. If you doc says he's old enough, maybe you could introduce fresh cow's milk yogurt to his diet. They're full of good, anti-yeast microbes.
