Newborn & Baby - June 2007

I was at a friend's house. Unknown to me, someone lit a blunt. I was in the room for approximately 5-8min before I realized what was going on and left. I am breastfeeding my two month old daughter. I'm wanting to know if my very limited exposure to this second-hand marijuana smoke will have an effect on my breast milk.

I am expecting my second baby in October, and already my areola are huge. There's no way a lil tiny baby mouth is going to be able to fit that in his/her mouth.

The nipple size seems ok now. However, with my first baby, I was told that my nipples are too short and that's why I was not succesful at breastfeeding. Looks like this time the nipple problem has been solved.

But I am wondering about the areola...

My best friend has a baby that is 15months old but she was born 6wks early, my daughter is 10 months old and they are about the same level developmentally. So I was just wondering if it was because her daughter was early or if my daughter was a little bit ahead? My daughters doctor did tell me that she is advanced on some areas. Thank you!!

When you want to have your first child do you usually have the urge to have a newborn baby or want a child?
I know it sounds stupid because you will have a newborn then a child
BUT.....I am starting to think about having my first child, but I dont think that I am 100% ready yet because the thought of having a 4 year old scares me!
I had to babysit for one a few months ago and she drove me nuts, but no other kid has ever annoyed me like that before!
AH!
Sorry....im all over the place!

All she wants to do is be right there on the boob. She is only 2 weeks old and she just started this yesterday. Just wants to nurse all the time. I know that she is getting something because time to time I take it out and squirt just to see, and sure enough there is always something there. But she is doing it so much that I feel like I am going empty. I tried to give her a passie but she gagged on it. But she is very grumppy now and I am not sure what to do. Any one have this problem? Any suggestions?

My baby was 2 weeks old when I shook him while he was choking, I paniced! Since then he is still very active in eating, smiling, laughing and of course sleeping. He is now 4 months old and stronger than ever. I didn't see any symptoms of him being hurt but could I have done something that will effect him in the long run?

The last few days the daycare girls have been putting my son to sleep on his stomach. I was upset because of the risk of SIDS. On his crib their is a sign that clearly states that he is too young to sleep on his tummy and that he must be always placed on the back to sleep. So I asked the girl why he was asleep on his stomach, and she told me because of gas and his fussiness. The next few days I began to notice the girls put all the babies regardless of age on their stomachs. Today my son was asleep on his stomach and I am very uncomfortable with that, not only does it pose the risk of SIDS but now I question the quality of the care this day care provides. They say if the baby is old enough to roll over on to their tummies then its ok but my son is only 3 months and I notice they put all the babies to sleep on their tummies. Are Daycares allowed to put babies to sleep on their stomachs? What should I do and say the next time this happens? (which will probably be tomorrow)

i CANNOT wait to start solids with my son.
he's only 3 months, i'm waiting untill 5 or so.. but getting excited!

I would like to hear other mommy/daddy's experiences with first time they introduced solids. Did the baby enjoy it? Was it fun for both of you? Now do you wish you could just go back to the bottle?

Any suggestions? I've thought about the Precious Moments figurines and that's my last resort but I feel like I can find something better and not so generic as a lot of other things out there.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

We've tried putting a little fan in her room and running it in hopes that the noise might mask the dog barks but it hasn't worked very well. Anyone know of anything else that might help?

I'm supposed to make a meal to bring to a new mom who's breastfeeding. I've been instructed not to make anything "gassy" or anything with broccoli or garlic, or anything spicy? I'd like to make something that would be easy for her to reheat. What on earth can I make for her? Should I just get takeout, if so what (excluding pizza)? Thanks.
