I do not vaccinate my children. After much research, I came to the conclusion that it is not safe for my children. I believe a healthy immune system, that is not tampered with, is best. When I told my sons pediatrician, he began fear-mongering and insulting me, lied to me about many things, and then fired my son as his patient. One of his nurses actually turned him in for how he treated me and had him written up for it. My sons new pediatrician is wonderful and respects my decision.
You may get hostility from the medical community, but stick to your guns.

Doctors recommend a certain schedule for vaccinations for good reasons. They like to get the children vaccinated before the child becomes high-risk for the disease the vaccine is designed to prevent. Follow your doctor's schedule on vaccines. You may not think they are necessary, but you are not a pediatrician or an immunologist.

I did not delay with my first child but when she died of SIDS and I started doing research and read a lot of things that have connected the DPT shot with SIDS and that 89% of SIDS babies received their vaccinations within 2 weeks of dying I decided to reconsider for future children. When I found out I was pregnant with my second child I took the information I had found to my doctor and discussed it with her. She said that she would do the same thing if she were me and said that she would work with me on the vaccinations. The DPT shot was given until 16 months and only one shot at a time was given. By the time my daughter was 2 she was at the same place with her vaccinations as somebody that followed this ridiculous schedule they have parents following. This scheudle is RIDICULOUS since it us unnecessary. My aunt works for an insurance company (Aetna) and said that that schedule was designed by the insurance companies to help cut down on paperwork and claims for them. There is no need for a baby to have 2,3, or 4 injections at once. If you take your child to a free clinic they are done one at a time and this is how they were done when I was little. I wondered why my mother freaked out with my first daughter when she found out that they give 4 shots at once. My son has pretty much been on the same schedule with a few variations. Since every child is different you need to base how the vaccinations are done on that. My son's are little different than my daughter because with her she was an only child and did not go to daycare or anything so was really only aroudn me. My son is obviously not an only child and even though he does not go to daycare my daughter is now in preschool and exposed to other children so I don't want her coming home and exposing my son so we had to make some changes in the way his were done. DPT is still not given until 16 months and only shot at a time is given.....he will also be caught up by the age of 2 just as he woudl be if he followed the schedule. Everyone just assumes that because a doctor says so that it is safe and that is no true. I have a medical background and I've seen it all. Vaccinations are not always a good thing and some babies should not get some of the vaccinations due to other medical conditions. You are taking a risk with getting them and you are taking a risk with not getting them. I lost a baby 7 days after getting them and after reading that 89% SIDS babies die within two weeks after getting these shots it's inevidible that I would never do that again....it's not worth the risk.
The schedule was not made up by doctors it was made up by insurance companies honey. We never had schedules years ago. Vaccinations do not have to be given in a certain timeframe....the schedule does not have to be followed and anyone that buys that bull is gullable.

Your baby should have gotten their first vaccine in the hospital, Hepatitis B. Immunizations are life saving vaccines that can help prevent unneccesary illness, even death.Alot of these diseases are on the rise due to illegal immigration and those countries do not have vaccine programs. Hepatits A and B are still prevalent, Measles, Mumps, Rubella are as well. Chicken Pos or varicella can be lethal in young children and adults. Polio has ALMOST been irridicated by the vaccine, then there is Tetanus and diptheria, which is available in a combivax called DTAP. Hep B/Hib are also given together. The FDA aprroved a 5 vaccine combo in which 5 vaccines are combined in one shot so it saves your baby from so many sticks. The needlestick hurts, yes, but it is a very small price to pay.I have never understood why anyone would opt out of giving their baby immunizations. So many of the diseases are making a comeback with ferocity and if you can protect them, why not do it ? Do a little research on some of the diseases and then make up your mind. Check with your child's pediatrician but I strongly advise to you to do for your child.
I don't know where ShannonManagan got her info and I am sorry for her loss, but the reason for an immunization schedule has NOTHING to do with insurance as 92 % of ALL immunizations are provided free thru a federally funded program. The reason for the schedule is to provide time for antibody development. There HAS NEVER, I repeat EVER been a link between DTaP and SIDS. That must be terrifying to have read. There are 5 doses spread out over a 24 month period. You never wait until 16 mos. There are resistance reasons for this. You will get all kinds of people trying to sway you to their opinion and it seems to be people with very little education or training. The most common side effect is low grade fever and injection site tenderness, a small price to pay considerind the alternative. Some babies, including my son have a viral exanthem ( a rash ) after. Please go to this web site and read up on each immunization
www.familydoctor.org or try www.kidshealth.org where you can check it out for yourself Don't take someone else's word for it, be responsible for your own decisions as a parent.

There is much more risk in not having your child vaccinated on schedule than having the vaccinations. Our vaccinations have helped so much and made us so unaware of the terrible diseases out there that we now feel babies don't need them. Look at what happens in poor third world countries where there aren't any vaccinations. By not vaccinating your child you are putting them at risk.

I waited until all mine were six months old before they started their shots. If you are nursing, they will get antibodies in the milk.
My family doctor was the one who suggested the delayed schedule. He had read of a suspected link between immunizations and SIDS. They had their shots at 6,8, and 10 months old.

I totally disagree with the person who said it was child neglect. My cousin didn't even vaccinate her daughter. She's very much in to natural healing. Yes, we thought she was insane when she did this but its her daughter and we can't barge in and try and take over. I think if you have a good reason to wait and not vaccinate your child then do it. I personally will want to vaccinate my child as soon as he comes into this world, but what works for me might not work for you! Good luck with this decision.

You would be insane to wait on vaccinations. They are very important. By you not doing them you should be arrested and charged with child neglect!
