I started feeding my son solids at 4mo because I was excited too. But found out after about a week or two he wasn't ready. I waited until he was 5mo then he was very eager. I know it can be anticipating but wait until 6mo. Why rush growing up? They have plenty of time to learn how to eat food after the 6mo mark. I know if I have another baby I'm going to wait. The time really does fly so enjoy your "baby" as much as you can.
It was fun but the fun didn't last long when it becomes a daily routine. I didn't wish for strictly bottle feeding again it was nice to do somehing different for a change. Although the bottle didn't last long with my son anyway, he's been off of one since 7mo but that's another story. Good Luck!

I actually started around 5 or 6 months with the cereals and I would mix them with the baby fruits. She really liked the oatmeals and all of the baby fruits and desserts. She never would eat any of the meats or meals really. She liked a few vegetables like sweet potatoes and green beans but she was kind of picky with those too. The first real solids she had were the Gerber puffs and the biter biscuits, she couldn't get enough of those. By the time she was about 8 or 9 months I started letting her try some of our table foods and she's been eating regular food since then with an occassional bottle of oatmeal. I was very glad to get her off of the bottle b/c it's a lot easier and less expensive.

Oh hun slow down and enjoy the bottle time. Solids are fun at first but the more you get into it things arent all fun and games. I waited till he was 6 months old to start our food with him and did it with mushy things first. Every baby has different taste and likes and dislikes. My son doesnt eat cold things and will not use a spoon for anything. He also must feed himself or he losses it. He has things he will eat till he busts and things he throws across the room. Some times its fun( I gave him onion the other night and he loved it) and some times not so much ( he has times he wont eat anything and screams his head off). Enjoy the simple bottle time while it lasts.

It is a wonderful experience and I am very glad I waited as long as I did to start. We started cereal at 5-5 1/2 months and then fruits/vegetables at 6 months, meats at 9 months. We started slowly, introducing one new thing per week. My daughter didn't get a lot in at first but she sure loved the experience and it's fun to watch her explore new tastes and textures.
It wasn't until she was older and started throwing food that I wished it was as easy as nursing again. ;)

The first time we started w/ thin rice cereal before bed because we thought it would help her sleep (at 3mths), buuttt....she stayed up half the night! it gave her energy..
Then at 4 mths she ate almost 50oz of formula one day (my dad was watching her), and I called her dr who said to start her up. Now she's 10mths, she eats stage 3 foods, and some mushy table foods 3x a day. She loves to try new things (her favorite right now is limes), and it's so exciting to introduce new foods. I'm glad that she's eating less from the bottle, because it's cheeper, and we can interact more face to face at her highchair. You're going to have some much fun once he's ready :)

Good for you for waiting until an appropriate age, most start way too early. My daughter didn't like rice cereal when we started it, but loved the vegetables and fruits. It was fun introducing more and more foods, but it does get a little messy, especially when the baby starts wanting to feed him or herself. Good luck.

A baby should not be given solids until he is around a year old. By this I mean hot dogs, burgers, etc.... around 6 months it is okay for baby food, because it is mushed. Wait til he is 6 months old, it is around that time that their digestive system is ready for foods. Right now though it is okay to mix his formula with rice cereal for babies and you can spoon feed him that. Sounds like you would find it really fun and since you cant wait, this gives you something to do.

Well, my nieces all started getting teeth REALLY soon, so they all started soild foods kinda early and it was so fun ot watch them with new things.
I highly recommend having them try a large variety of things as one child did and is not picky at all, the other did not and is SUPER picky on every thing.
Make sure you have a camera ready for the day you try Pickles!!

I love your questions! they're so down to earth and REAL!! Anyway, I started my girls on solids at about 6 months because they developed a little soon. I started them on oatmeal, peas and carrots. Not that Gerber stuff or Becch-Nut, I used Quaker oats and raw veggies I steamed and smashed. I had fun, cuz we both we're able to eat a meal (i didn't put it in my hair, on the table or in my diaper) but it was enjoyable anyway.
