My baby was 2 weeks old when I shook him while he was choking, I paniced! Since then he is still very active in eating, smiling, laughing and of course sleeping. He is now 4 months old and stronger than ever. I didn't see any symptoms of him being hurt but could I have done something that will effect him in the long run?

yes you could have, but i'm so glad he's okay!!!
The brain rotates within the skull cavity, injuring or destroying brain tissue.
When shaking occurs, blood vessels feeding the brain can be torn, leading to bleeding around the brain.
Blood pools within the skull, sometimes creating more pressure within the skull and possibly causing additional brain damage.
Retinal (back of the eye) bleeding is very common

WHY

Babies' heads are relatively large and heavy, making up about 25% of their total body weight. Their neck muscles are too weak to support such a disproportionately large head.
Babies' brains are immature and more easily injured by shaking.
Babies' blood vessels around the brain are more susceptible to tearing than older children or adults.

i'm sure you did your research on how to help a choking infant, but heres a few pointers...
Hold the baby in a face-down position, placing the baby lengthwise on your forearm, head pointed toward the ground. The baby's body should be firm against your forearm. Brace your forearm against your thigh if necessary. Deliver five firm back blows between the shoulder blades, using the palm of your hand.

Good Luck to you, and i'm sure your little one is fine!!! if he didnt have any signs on injury and has had well baby check ups since then, he's okay :)

I agree 100% with newmommy132. I would suggest you look into taking CPR classes. They will teach you what to do if this occurs and you'll have the opportunity to practice over and over until it is second nature. Your baby could have been very seriously injured when you shook him. It sounds like he's fine, and probably will be.

My only question would be what was a 2 week old choking on? At that age, they can't even put something in their mouth?

We had an in depth call with a milk cap.. scared me and him the two, yet i replaced into sitting precise there and took it out. i do no longer pass away issues laying around, yet often times issues only happen. the sole different element is foodstuff.. we tried toddler led weaning, permitting him to take bites and chew on his very own, yet he could choke and forcefully vomit. he would be 11 months previous in some days and we nevertheless could cut up his foodstuff rather advantageous. we attempt often to enable him take his very own bites, yet he would not understand that he has to chew off only what he can chew.

What were you feeding your baby at 2 weeks that made it choke?

He is fine..
But I think that it is so very important for us to try HARD not to panic in situations like these because our minds can and will go blank and then we will forget what to do.

Im glad everything is fine :)

i really don't think so, if something bad was going to happen it would have happened already, he sounds like is doing very well. if you are real scared and concerned just take him to his pediatrician.

if everything is going fine then no worries, and stop feeling guilty!! He was choking, and you tried to save him! Would you rather have let him choke!
