i'm the oldest of 4 kids and the oldest on my mom's side of the family and i noticed that when they were young and being excessively fussy, turning on the vaccum cleaner or the kitchen fan (and in the case of my nephew, very rythmic drum and base music) it put them right to sleep. i've heard of similar things from friends who have recently had kids...

i've found this a curiosity and wondered why this was so, any ideas?

I have a 6.5 month old daughter who has been eating her banana rice cereal but seems to hate jarred baby food such as carrots, mixed veggies, peas and strawberries. Each time i try to feed it to her she either spits it out, makes horrible faces and on occassion gags. I am a first time mother so i dont have an experience in any of this. Could it be just the texture or is it the taste? Are there any guidelines on how to make your own baby food? DO you think she may eat it if i make it myself? Also how long is jarred baby food good for once opened and refrigerated? Thank you in advance.

My daughter is almost 6 months old and has been rolling over for a little over a month...but she only rolls from back to stomach...she doesn't really like it on her stomach so after a few minutes (if she lasts that long) she starts to whine and cry...I don't pick her up right away, but rather roll her onto her back before I pick her up, hoping to teach her...is this ok for her to only roll one way, or should she be doing both by now? And how can I teach her to roll from stomach to back?

My daughter started on rice cereal and diluted applejuice at 4 months. She will be 5 months on the seventh. She loves her rice cereal and it helps herstay full longer at night, she is breastfeeding more and more though and I was wondering if introducing a little applesauce with her cereal would be ok for her. She doesn't show any signs of discomfort with the juice. Any advice would be great, Thank you.

My son is 5 wks old and lately WILL NOT sleep unless I'm holding him - even throughout the night. He falls asleep (seemingly sound asleep) & as soon as I lay him down, no matter how quietly, slowly, or gently I do it - he wakes up fussing. I am getting very little sleep & nothing done (like dinner, showers, homework help) & I feel bad because I am afraid the rest of my family (2 girls ages 14 &12) are not getting any attention from me because I am always having to hold & tend to him. He's also very colicky (which has gotten better since switching to lactose-free formula). My husband & I have tried everything - feed him, change him, rocking, put him in swing, vibrating bouncer, car rides, bouncing on exercise ball, swaddling ... still cries when I put him down. Co-sleeping scares me to death (my husband is a big guy & moves around a lot). So today In desperation I laid him down, left the room & let him cry - & in less than 5 min. he was asleep! Am I bad for doing this?? HELP!!

My son won't nap in his crib. He will sleep there for about 15 min. then wake up. When I put him in his swing he will nap for 1 1/2- 2hrs. He is 4 1/2 months old. He sleeps in his crib at night, through the night. Is it bad to let him nap all the time in his swing? Honestly I don't want him to get use to it but what else do I do?

My 7 month old had vomited some last night and it wasn't like his usual spit up, it smelled like vomit (stomach acid). It had a little food mixed in, but the puddles weren't any bigger than usual spit up (a little smaller than the palm of my hand). It wasn't everything in his stomach and he acted fine and had no fever. He did this about 4 times in an hour and then quit. I gave him about 4-5 ouces of Pedialyte and put him to bed and he didn't vomit any over night. But I am still worried. What do you think could have caused this, and is it safe to feed him well tolerated solids and formula or should I stick with liquids for a little while? His temp is still normal and he still isn't acting sick.

i m really tensed coz my baby does not want to eat. in morning he wont have cereal, only fruit or yoghurt. for lunch, 4-5 oz of formula and later cereal and mashed fruit for dinner. he gets bored of cereal very soon, so sometimes he wont have cereal whole day. at night he wakes up for milk 2 times, and consumes 4 oz each time. i have tried so many home made recipes for him, he just does not like them.my baby is 73 cm long and weighs almost 9 kgs. i m very stressed. what can i do to improve his eating? thanx.

I'm a working mother with a 1 year old. On the weekends I clean my house really good and by the middle of the week it is a disaster again. I get home about 5pm. and am constantly going with my son until his bed time about 8pm. After I put him to bed I just want to go to bed myself and forget about everything, but when I wake up in the morning everything is a disaster. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips on how to balance work, son, cleaning house, cooking dinner for my husband.

I have a three month old and I am not sure if it's normal for this or not but he seems to be acting fine like nothing is wrong. His temp. has been a tad bit low (nothing alarming) but at about 98.2 to 98.5 which is lower than usual for him. He woke up after 7 hours of sleeping and barely had a wet diaper at all. And it was like that the other night. He isn't eating as much either at all. It's just weird b/c he is not showing any signs of not feeling good. What could be going on with him??? Any similar experiences???

My grandson's mother feels it is ok for him to ride forward facing, because supposedly the doctor said his neck muscles were strong enough for him to do so. I think that he should be rear facing, not only because she is breaking the law but because it would be safer. Her reply is also that he would hurt his legs riding backwards.
