My son won't nap in his crib. He will sleep there for about 15 min. then wake up. When I put him in his swing he will nap for 1 1/2- 2hrs. He is 4 1/2 months old. He sleeps in his crib at night, through the night. Is it bad to let him nap all the time in his swing? Honestly I don't want him to get use to it but what else do I do?

Someone made a comment about letting their baby sleep in their carseat- I did that too. Before he slept in his crib at night, he slept in his car seat. A few weeks ago, we decided to transition him into his crib and it went fine, a lot better than I expected. Maybe that't the way it will go with the swing.

Hello,

Oh yeah, I let my twin girls nap in their swings all the time. Especially when they were from the ages of 3-5 months. Their swings were the best thing I have ever had. They were with me where ever I went. They had 5 speeds and I would always put them on #4 and our twins would just fall asleep for at least an hour.

Hope this helps you................. :-)

I let my son (4 months) sleep in his swing only during the day if he falls asleep in it. He doesn't like his crib during the day for some reason either. My son is getting to the point where he's outgrowing his swing so I'm limiting the time he's in it so that it's not as hard to transition him when he's out of it altogether.

A friend of ours gave us an exercauser and he's liking that more and more so I'm putting him in there instead of his swing. He tells me when he's getting tired and I'll lay him on a blanket on the floor to try to let him sleep before I put him in the swing.

My middle child would only nap in the swing from 3 months to about 6 months old.

My youngest child would not sleep in her crib at all the first 6 months. She insisted on sleeping in her car seat. I don't get it, but the doctor said it was fine as long as she couldn't fall out. So I just buckled her in and tilted it back and she was a happy camper.

My daughter slept in her swing exclusively after she was 6 wks old. I kept her in her bassinet while I was home on maternity leave. But once I went back to work and my hubby was there, she started sleeping in the swing. She slept there for the next 4 months. Once she was about 5.5 mos, I started putting her in the crib.
I was mostly worried, being a first time mom, of her throwing up and choking if she was laying down. Not that I didn't trust my hubby to take care of her, I just wanted to be sure she'd be okay if he left the room!! Over reaction, I know.
Now, she sleeps very well in her crib. It didn't even mess up her sleep pattern...she still sleeps an average of 12hrs a night, and She's adjusting very easily to her new bed time. I put her to bed y 730pm...I'll go in and soothe her if she's upset until 800pm. But we have a routine, I hug and kiss her, (she's almost 7mos) tell her good night, and that I love her and she accepts the fact that its time to go to bed.
The key factor is that your baby feels comfortable when sleeping. Even now, if Anastacia seems kind of clingy, I'll Let her sleep in her swing because it kind of cuddles her, she curls up as if she's being held.
Basically, my answer is no...it's not bad to let him nap in his swing. Like I said, my daughter spent about 75% of her sleeping and waking time in the swing. She's fine. The swing doesn't work anymore, but it still serves its purpose. Kind of like a security blanket.

I let my son sleep in his swing for his long nap during the day. He sleeps in his crib and goes to sleep by himself at night (7:30pm - 7 am), but does not sleep well in his crib for naps. Basically, he takes a morning nap for about 45 mins to 1 hour in his crib. He then takes a long afternoon nap (after lunch) for about 1.5 - 2.5 hours in his swing. Then he usually takes one more short nap around 4:30-5 pm in his crib for about 30 minutes. We (myself and his nana who babysits for me) tried desperately to avoid getting him used to sleeping in his swing, but it was horrible. He would only sleep for around 45 minutes and would wake up and be cranky; he would not re-settle. It made us all miserable...so we gave up and now our days are much better. I think as long as he sleeps at night in his crib, I don't see a problem. My son is almost 6 month old and we have been using this routine for about 1-2 months; it works great!! Good luck! Remember YOU are the one who has to live with and raise your child; do what works best for the two of you.

Let him sleep where he'll sleep. My babies actually slept too good in their crib during the and then they wouldn't sleep at night. I had them sleep in their baby carseat for naps so they would only sleep 1-2 hours at a time.

As long as he isn't too big for it then it doesn't matter. My son is 5 months old and sleeps in his swing better then anywhere else. But he had colic and that motion and upright position was what soothed him. He just now getting to where he can sleep on his back.

I dont think its bad that you let him take naps in his swing. I've known women who put there kids in their carseats to sleep. Honestly whatever works is what you should do as long as it isn't do harm then its fine.

Good luck.

Sleeping in the swing is not bad as long as it is not for hrs on end. Sleeping in it too long can cause back problems and may even prevent him from sitting up correctly by 6 mos. My son started falling asleep in the swing, and after he was fast asleep I would carry him up to his crib and turn his mobile on. I say whatever works for you...go with it.

Do whatever works. I had to use the swing with my daughter because she had colic and reflux. Sitting in the swing upright helped her tremendously.

She loved to swing at the fastest speed. Once she would fall asleep, I was lower the speed, but I couldn't turn it off or she would wake up. Make sure you prop their heads up so that they don't end up in an uncomfortable position with their head hanging with chin to chest. It just looks uncomfortable.

She just loved the motion. I just checked her feet and hands to see if they were too cold. If so, I put a blanket on her and socks on the feet.

It won't hurt them. She still loves to swing today and is 2 years old.
