My daughter isn't quite 5 months old she will be in 2 weeks. She rolls over from her back to her stomach sometimes and has rolled from her stomach to her back. She laughs out loud and squeals, she stands when I'm holding her, she trys to sit up and gets half way up on her own when I hold her legs for her (like a sit up), she can sit when shes supported with pillows! Every baby is different and my doctor says that my daughter is developing fine and is right on target with the different milestones. My doctor recommended tummy time as much as possible because this helps them to develop a lot of muscles needed for rolling, crawling and walking. So get a rug or a really thick blanket or maybe on your bed possibly? And put your baby down on his stomach as much as possible during the day. The more time for him to exercises his muscles the better! Good Luck!

This could be why he is not rolling over or anything. When my son was a baby I didn't like putting him on the floor and so I kept him in a walker as a result he skipped crawling and went right to walking. Meanwhile my youngest son crawled at five months and walked at nine months so don't get too worried about his milestones. If you think he may have a pervasive developmental delay take him to his doctor so they can check him for that but more that likely he is fine.

It may be that he is not feeling as well or teething and that's why he needs the extra comfort from the dummy. Since SIDS is a concern for all babies under 12 months I would let him have it till then because using a dummy reduces the risk of SIDS. After he turns 1 you can start him using it less but you said he already dont use it during the day so he is doing great. please don't cut the nipple-it becomes a choking hazard when you do that-besides it doesn't work anyway-they either suck it and don't care or cry just as hard if they didn't have one-he is still very young and he will soon be able to feel around and find it at night

lol - just asked a nearly identical Q. My son is 5 months old - he rolled from back-belly @ 14wks, and has JUST started doing it from belly-back - although looks more accidental still. He can sit well with support, and when propped forward will sit unaided for a few moments. He has a thing for sucking his toes! Buy a mat so he can have plenty of tummy time - this will ensure he's hitting his milestones at the right ages. They say babies should be able to roll by 6months, sit btw 6-8months, crawl btw 6-9months - although it depends on baby really.

I have a 5 month old and shes doing all those things, don't worry, he'll find his feet soon. I've read tons of books and he seems right on track. I think tummy time is very important, maybe you can play with him on the bed. We have hardwood floors so playing roll over on the bed is my only choice. I just made a game of it...put him on a pillow and roll him down (say weeee or boom or something to put the drama in it), my daughter thought this was very funny and I think it helped her to roll more.

There are many things that are listed what a child should or shojuld not be doing, but my daughter walked at 9 months and walked on her hands by the age of 18 months. Yes this is true!! My son only started walking at 14 months and had little or no co ordination at all till he was around 12 when he found out he was great at skateboarding and rollerblading. I dare not compare children and I can say that the longer your child takes ie if he belly crawls longer believe it or not, the better for brain growth. He may be slower physically, but don't doubt what his brain is picking up. Play clasical music to him and read him stories ie short ones/ nursery rhymes to stimulate him and give him one toy to play with at a time changing them regularly to keep his mind active and stop stressing he can pick it up from you. Enjoy your child

You need to get him a thick blanket and an eggshell to lay on the floor. He will start rolling over in no time. When they first roll over it is on accident thats how they learn they can do it. As far as feet go show them to him.Put them up to his mouth.I did this to my son when he was about 4 1/2 and he puts them in his mouth now.My son doesn't sit up by himself yet and hes 6 months old.As long as your baby can hold his head up and sit with someone supporting him he should be good. You really need to give him some tummy time though.Check out this website. p.s.My son loves to chew on his fingers.(he has been since he was a day old.

Calm down tweedy. I have three children and I can tell you that your 5mth old is doing what every 5mth old should be doing. You should be able to google infant milestones and get exactly what you are looking for. If he turned over once that's great. Good luck.
Oh yeah, putting something on the floor like the other chick suggested is great. This way you can put him on his stomach and play with him.

you are right, every child is different.
You can leave him with you watching of course on your bed and put some toys around him, if he reaches for them, thats one thing he SHOULD be doing ( but then again if hes not dont worry)..Its a bit early for sitting up..
As for feet playing, my daughter never did it. She crawled at 8 months and some other children never do that.
People compare baby to baby, do not agonise about it. I bet hes happy and healthy and will be doing so many things all at once you will have to stay awake just to keep up.

I signed up to the pampers newsletter, that gave me loads of information. Just go to www.pampers.co.uk and follow the registration links. You also get money off coupons sometimes.
I'm also a member of tesco and boots babies clubs, they send info through the post- I don't know if you are in England and can do these, but ask at your big name chemists and supermarkets to see if they have baby clubs you can join. Their magazines are really helpful
Can you not get him a playmat for him to roll around on, you can get padded ones for hard floors.
