i've been breastfeeding my daughter who is 2 weeks old and this morning she woke up all broke out around only her left eye, and after i breastfeed her this morning about 20 mins later she was in her bouncy seat and threw up everything in her little stomach and it was yellish along with breast milk color with chunks. Shes been throwing up the milk just a little for a few days now. Could she be allergic to my milk??

Babies are not necessarily allergic to the mother's milk, but can be allergic to things the mother eats. Sometimes if the baby is only breastfed and shows signs of an allergy, it can help tremendously if the mother goes on an elimination diet. The most common things in the mother's diet babies can be allergic to are nuts, milk products and eggs. Sometimes eliminating those is enough. Some babies are sensitive to spices and other foods too.

Not allergic to your milk, but maybe sensitive to something you ate. Or, it could be totally unrelated to food. My son gets pretty sick when I have garlic. Also, when I have chow mein - but I don't know what's in it that makes him sensitive to it. Def talk to the doctor - I know you would anyway, but really no one on here can help too much. Keep up the breastfeeding -it takes a lot of time to get into a rythem and to know that the baby is OK. I remember hitting the 3 week mark and just starting to feel sure of myself and the baby and that everything was going OK. Also - they do break out right about 2 weeks old - almost like acne.

Not very likely.

She could be having a reaction to something you ate though. Have you had anything different in your diet lately?

The breaking out around her eye makes me wonder if there was a detergent or perfume or lotion or something that you or someone else who held her used that could have caused that?

Do you burp her after she feeds? Maybe she just needs to be burped better so she doesn't bring the milk back up? Especially if she gets crying before she gets fed, because then she could be gulping air.

Has anyone else in the home been sick lately?

It's not very likely that she is allergic to your breastmilk, but she could be reacting to something you ate and is coming out in your milk. With a rash and vomiting at this young an age it is best to take her to the Dr. She might really have gotten a bug. It is the beginning of the cold and flu season.

I have never heard of an infant being allergic to a mothers milk. It is designed for the baby.
A few things could be happening....
You may be missing burps.
She could have an intestinal problem.
She could have intestines that are crossed and now showing problems with growth.
You should take her to her doctor and have an exam done to ensure she is healthy and things are okay.

She could be allergic to breast milk, she could be allergic to anything really!

Another few things to consider:

A. It is Flu season!!
B. Colic--My son was really colicky! Took him 6 months to grow out of it.
C. Maybe putting her in a bouncy seat after she eats isn't best idea?

It is very unlikely that she is allergic to your milk. It is very possible, however, that she could be allergic to something in your diet. The biggest offender is dairy, so should probably cut out all dairy products from your diet. Read food packages to make sure you have cut them all out-- dairy can show up as lactose, casein, whey, and several other names. Dairy is in a lot of processed foods-- I even found dairy in gum once!

Elimination diets aren't very fun, but if your daughter is having trouble with your milk it is very likely that she will have trouble with all formulas, even the very expensive prescription formulas. You need to get all dairy out of your diet for 2 weeks. Then see where you are and hopefully you wont' have to eliminate anything else from your diet.

Throwing up is normal.......my daughter used to throw up all the time....until about 3-4 months old......

but if she has a rash on her face....it might be something in the food you are eating that is coming through the breastmilk.....
like cow's milk, or peanuts etc.
You might try to take those kinds of things out of your diet and see what happens.

Yes. Some babies are lactose intolerant.

Sometimes a woman's body takes awhile to release the good milk. Talk to her doctor about it the next time you go in for her well baby check up. You more than likely have not built up enough good milk.

Take her to the doctor, my mother couldn't feed her children because her milk was not good. The thing with the eye I don't like.
The chunks are just her stomach acid combined with the milk, there's nothing to worry about, looks like cottage cheese.
Go for your own piece of mind.
