Adults get injured when they fall because they tense up. Tensed muscles are rigid and therefore provide only brittle protection to the underlying structure of tissue and bones.

A baby has no fear, does not know what 'falling' is or what it means. It therefore lands in a state of relaxation and its muscles are completely soft (and its bones are relatively soft too). Less damage is caused in this way.

In the same way, people who are blind drunk can survive falling down a flight of stone steps that would kill or seriously injure a sober person.

It wasn't the adult breaking its fall that protected the baby - babies have been known to fall alone from balconies on high-rise flats and yet still survive.

Because her body broke the baby's fall. It's the maternal instinct of a mother to protect a child in danger and that is why the baby is still alive.
Make any sense?

Hello,

If this is a riddle, I would say the baby was still inside her or the baby was already dead before impact.

Hope this helps you or is the answer you are seeking.... :-)
