I'm writing a term paper on parenting the next generation and i need a website that doesn't have all that self-esteem/confidence bullshit. Can anyone recommend a site that is in touch with the realities of good parenting?

Our family moved cross country this summer. We enrolled our son in our neighborhood school for kindergarten. We've been happy with it but we don't think it will be the best place for him for 1st grade so we’re trying to decide whether to keep him where he is or send him to a private school.
Things I’m thinking about:
1) We know he will be safe in the current school for 1st grade but we also know he won't be challenged academically or develop strong friendships (80% of the students speak English as a 2nd language).
2) No matter what he will be changing schools for second grade (We're renting a house until we get a good sense of the area and plan to buy a home in summer '09.)
3) He handles “big changes” really well (getting a baby brother, moving across the country, starting K, etc)
So, do we make him attend four different schools in four years (Preschool, K, 1, 2), or do we give him a less than stellar first grade experience in order to provide a bit more stability. Thanks!

I want to spend 1 hour each day talking to her about her school, social, and personal life, but she refuse. I ask why and she said that when her older sister was 13, she never have to spend time with me. Her sister only went to school, came home, do homework, eat, watch tv, talk on phone, and hang out with her friends. So if she have to spend time with me now, it would be unfair for her. Her sister is 18 now and left home. She wants her own life without any obligation to dedicate to the family, just like her sister. She feels her sister was luckier and she wants it too. She said that the reason I require her to spend time with the family at 13 and didn't require her sister to at 13 is that she is the youngest and that I am always preventing the youngest to grow up. I admit that I didn't spend alot of time with my oldest at 13 because I was always working. Now I work less hours and want to spend more time with her, but she refuse. I am sad. What can I do?

I'm planning on buying a pair of these b/c my 5-week daughter seems to be having comfort issues in her snugride. I don't think they come with most car seats and wondering for those who use them: has your infant experienced more discomfort from them, from rubbing against their face/neck, or problems tightening the straps when you buckle them in?

Also, do these covers pose a safety risk (hence why they don't come with the car seats), albeit Graco does sell a head support that come with these too? Thanks.

Boyfriend and I are raising his boys.

Boys mom boyfriend hates kids.

Mom ran off years ago but keeps in contact by talking to them almost everyday or taking them to school. Holidays; ect.

Boys mom bought boys telephones (boys 15 and 16) 1 month later mom says 16 yr old has to take over phone bill (he does work)

I feel it is unappropriate because 16 yr old is to irresponsible and now we have the burden of overseeing another bill that will now be in his name and it adds more stress on him.

She has done this maybe 3 or 4 times and sometimes she sounds like she's scared, but now I'm worried it could be something else. It's not every night though. We cosleep and she's breastfed. Do babies this age have nightmares, and what could cause them? Or could she be hurting somewhere?

I have a younger brother whos turning 2 in april. And the boy eats NOTHING. just strawberries. You can cook the best foods and he wont take a bite. He says yes to sweets of course like cookies. Once in a while he takes a bite of real food but thats it. He lives off of milk basically. I wanted to know if this is normal behavior for a toodler? Any moms out here dealing with the same thing? Docter says he is heathy overall, but he never eats! ANY HELP OR ADVICE PLEASE?

I saw August Rush in theaters and I fell in love with the name Lyla, except I think I like it spelled better Lilah. I don't know what to use for a middle name though. I was thinking:
Lilah Grace
Lilah Rose
Lilah Sophia
Lilah Eden

those are the only ones I've come up with, and none of them are "Ah-Hah" Any suggestions? Also, how would you spell Lilah?

I also really like Rowan for a boy, but I have no idea what middle name to use.

So, my questions are:
1. What middle name(s) go well with Lilah
2. Which way would you spell it?
3. What middle name(s) go well with Rowan?

Please keep in mind, Lilah is pronounced Lie-La, not Lee-La

Thanks so much for your help and opinions. Happy Holidays!
Kelsey

I've seen on here that people use breast feeding as a way of birth control - I am not currently pregnant or breast feeding, I was just curious how this worked.
Does it count as breast feeding if you use a pump? Or only if you breast feed without pumps and bottles?

Just curious! Thanks :-)

Do you like the name Isabella, Anabella or Annabella better?? I think they are all beautiful and classic. I am not sure which I prefer the most though. Isabella is Italian or Spanish and means Consecrated to God, and Anabella or Annabella means Gracious Lovable Beauty. I would use Bella for short for Isabella and either Bella or Ana/Anna for the other two for short. I already have a daughter named Savannah.
