When I came home I found out my babysitter had given my 12 week old child 2 ounces of the lemon gatorade. Do I need to take my daughter to the hospital or will she be okay at home? She's never had anything other than similac advanced formula and infant tylenol (one time) for her shots.

Yes, the babysitter is not babysitting anytime soon. I should of explained taking care of my child better to her. But, I thought giving her a bottle of formula was self explanatory.

did you ask your babysitter why she put gatorade in the bottle? has your baby been sick? 2 ounces of gatorade given to a 3 month old is not going to hurt her. she may get a little diarreah from it, but she'll be fine. gatorade and pedialyte are basically the same thing. pedialyte is usually given when a baby is sick or has been vomiting. or mabye your baby sitter just felt like giving your baby something sweet. trust me, it will not hurt your baby, but if you are uncomfortable with your sitter giving your baby anything besides formula, be sure to tell her. when my daughter was 4 months, i found out that my baby sitter had been giving my daughter ice cream, suckers, and letting her dig in to a chocolate silk pie. It never hurt her, and I think I was more upset that my baby sitter was giving my daughter things that I did not want her to have. Here I was trying my daughter on gerber stage one veggies, and she was giving her sweets all the time. Trust me, a little gatorade is not going to hurt your baby, but don't let your baby sitter give your baby anything you don't want her to have.

Gatorade is fine. Pedialyte and Gatorade can both be used if a baby is dehydrated(whether it be human or not...I've used it on baby squirrels). I'm sure your little girl will be fine. However; I would think twice before letting the babysitter take care of your child. Maybe try to find someone more experienced with infants.

I am fairly certain that your baby will be fine. I don't know if I'd fire the babysitter, though. I'd talk to her first. Let her know that you're not okay with it.
I've been through the same thing. Not with a babysitter, though. My husband's aunt is a pepsiholic. One day, I left my son with her for a couple of minutes. When i came back, I found out she had put Pepsi in a sippi cup for him (he's eleven months old) . Problem was, she KNEW I wasn't okay with it before she even did it. This woman will put coffee and soda in a baby's bottle if she thinks they want it.

That is crazy! You are good because I would have probably seen that Gatorade in the bottle and would have just spased out! I do not think that I would do anything to the baby; but for reassurance I would call the er and ask!

I know I don't have children and I'll probably be the only guy answering this question but I SWEAR WITH ALL MY MIGHT, that I just heard this today on a radio show. There are a lot of mothers who give there babies gatorade. It something about helping digesting formula and keeping the baby hyrdrated. Just ask your doctor. In all it wasn't supposed to be bad for them.

Baby should be fine...gatorade is very much like pedialite, take a deep breath and relax.
Before you fire your babysitter you should talk to her about your expectations and how you want your child cared for. I've found out that MANY people still think that babies need water and other liquids ASAP, rather than ONLY formula or breastmilk. It's possible that your sitter was raised to think this way and likely didn't intend any harm.

Watch for diarrhea and allergic reactions but the electrolytes in gatorade should prevent water intoxication and 2oz should be too little to cause water intoxication in a 12 week old.
However how sure are you that it was only 2oz, and it was only gatorade?

She'll be fine. DO NOT give her water though. Too much water can actually kill a baby and she's already had 2 oz too many. Just feed her like you normally would, but I'm sure she'll be fine. I'd fire that babysitter ASAP!

she'll be okay...there's nothing in it that'll make her sick enough to go to the hospital. she may have a belly ache...
i wouldn't invite that babysitter back to my house as she obviously doesn't know how to take care of a newborn.
