Pregnancy & Parenting - 6 February 2007

I have been with a beautiful woman for the past 2 and a half years. We've had our share of relationship problems,and even though we've made some bad decisions at times,we've always managed to get past them with understanding. Recently we've found out she is pregnant,and although there might be a slim chance that this miracle is not mine we've decided to reconcile, and work together to make us a good life together with this child,mine or not Period. We love each other plain,and simple.She has lost one some time ago in an old relationship from stress,and due to crone's disease,she has a high risk of not having kids the older she gets.Most of our family,and friends are happy for us,but her sister in-law,being a highly negative person,has been very outspoken in her opinion of the situation of our coming child to the point that she went home upset,and crying,and had entertained the idea of aborting.We talked.All is ok.What can we do to stop this kind of stress in her life? We need answers.

My daughters father complained that I took her to my grandmothers funeral. He didn't say anything about not wanting her to go until after it was done and over with. I talked to him before we went and while I was at the funeral home. He makes no since to me. Please let me know if he does to you.
Our daughter is 4 and she didn't even go near the body. They had a separate room that all the kids stayied in during the cerimony. He won't listen to me on that though.
At what age would you take a child to a funeral and what age is it safe to teach a child about death?

Does anyone or has anyone given their baby a store brand formula instead of a name brand. My husband and I cannot afford Simulac anymore and the store brand is $10.00 cheeper. I don't want to take away from my baby, but if store brand is just as good, I need to know. Opinions, facts, or personnal experiences welcome!

I am a single dad who works from home, but my kids are very small - 1 and 2 years old. I can't do my job and take care of them at the same time, but I would like to keep them home instead of a day care. They are with there mom first 10 days of month and then one more weekend and the other 17 days with me so someone would be on the clock a little more then half the time. I have an empty bedroom that could be used. What should I expect to pay?

I have a daughter Breanna & another girl on the way. I want a name that flows well with it but not to similar (no Brandy or Britney- they are too close). We usually call my daughter Bre for short so I want a name that can be shortened as well so short names like Ava don't work well for me. Any ideas are a big help, thanks!

I decided not to circumcise my son. It was a difficult decision, but after awhile I realized that my only apprehension to leaving him naturally was about his possibly being rejected in a one-on-one situation with a girl in high school. It seemed superficial.

Since the American Association of Pediatrics no longer supports any health benefits to cicumcision...why do I still question my decision?

I worry about him in the shower room when he's older, but it seems crazy to cut something off just because we've always done it as a society.

He's 3 now...Any advice?

I am 39 weeks and 5 days pregnant. At my last check (2/2) I was 3cm and 75% effaced. I have completely lost my mucous plug as of yesterday. Over the last few weeks I have had several episodes of minor contractions and sharp "knife-like" cervical pain, which I have been told is normal. Tonight, however, everytime I walk, move, etc the pain is there and is HORRIBLE. There is so much pressure on my pelvis which is just making this whole thing worse. Before, these pains went away, but now they are just getting worse. I am not having contractions, although this is my first baby so I am not 100% sure what I should be expecting, but I am having menstrual-like cramps, but I have had those on and off for about 7 days now. Also, the baby is moving more right now than I can ever remember. Should I just sit it out and see what happens tonight? Or should I make plans to go in? We just got about 6 inches of snow, so making a trip IS a big deal right now.

I have a very cordial relationship with him otherwise, but I simply do not agree with him here. Whenever my little one misbehaves i stop talking to him and that works, he'd come to me and say sorry. But this does not happen when his grandpa's around, because he would take him to his play room if I'm angry....

I would be pronouced like S-i-r-ee. I fell in love with this name about 10 years ago and now I'm at 30 weeks and getting close to the due date.

It's not a very well known name but I think it's beautiful. I've found a couple references about the name. There was some famous lady in Britain in the early 1900's. It also is an island in the story the Odyssey (a beautiful bountiful island.)

What do you think of the name (be nice)

What about middle names. My last name is Hunt so I can't have any C or K names. I'm fond of E names too. One idea is Syrie Elizabeth Hunt. Thank you for all responses.

My daughter who recently turned one..and has never had problems with dry skin before..recently started to get really bad dry patches of skin...On her knee and middle leg area, her elbow and middle arm area and her cheeks. I was trying to find some information on Eczema but I don't think that is what it is because why would it just all of a sudden appear now. Just wondering if any one else had this happen to their child and what it was.
I am calling the doc and making a appointment tomorrow..just want your opinions. Thanks.

I had a child 3 months ago (father and I not together...nor will we be) and I do not have the money or means to give my baby a good home. He is such a sweet little baby and I want him to have a good life. I have heard that open adoption will allow me to be a part of his life and at the same time he would have a family that would be able to provide for him and give him all the advantages that I never had. Please help! This is not at all easy for me but I realize that I must stop thinking about what I want and start thinking about my child's future.

I'm 30 weeks along and last night in our birth class our teacher said something about the fact that we shouldn't take a bath for six weeks after giving birth. She made it sound like this was a very well known fact so I was too embarressed to ask her about this at the time.
I don't see why you couldn't have a bath straight after delivery...and in fact, I was looking forward to a nice long warm soak in the bathtub (it's been so hard in pregnancy to not take my usual hot steaming baths.) Thank you for your answers

My daughter is 5, she has been throwing up all evening. She has tried to just do drinks, I gave her some apple sauce, then she wanted jell-o. About 10 minutes after eating or drinking she is vomiting it back up again. What can I give her? and At what point should you call a doctor?? She has no fever, and after vomiting, she is up and moving around like nothing even happened. What should I do, this is the first time she has had this kind of vomiting. Help please. Thanks

I’m 18 years old and got pregnant when I was 17 by my ex boyfriend. Now I know it was a mistake so I’m not looking for answers like that but I am looking for some good advice. THANKS! We were going through a really bad break up when I found out I was pregnant and I told him that I was pregnant. There was a point when his family was being very nasty towards me and I couldn’t handle it and I thought I was going through a miscarriage.. So I told him I had one and left him. Later on that week I found out everything was okay with my pregnancy. WELL I’m due next month and I still haven’t told him that everything is really okay. I’m finishing high school and going to school being a nurse ( already got excepted to a community college around where I live) I have amazing friends and very hard working parents that are standing behind me. My ex’s is living in apartment with 2 of his buddies and is a so called player.. He drinks every night didn’t finish high school , smokes like no other, traded in his new 03 Honda… for some 1999 low rider truck.. His family is VERY WHITE TRASH and dramatic .. He once told me that he didn’t want any of his kids to have a better education than him, and his family is the type of family too ( once my kid is old enough) talk about my family to her. I really really don’t want this kind of life style for my kid.. Should I tell him? THANKS! No rude answers please
