With my first one I had a false negative with the doc's test. I ended up needing a blood test. Sometimes the hormone level can be low enough that the test doens't pick up on it.

Can I still be pregnant if the test is negative (have a "false negative")? In a word, yes. You could be testing too early (before your baby is making enough pregnancy hormone to be detected by the test.) And some women (this is fairly rare, but possible) never get a positive urine test even when they're definitely pregnant (for some reason the hormone doesn't make it into their urine.) I have a friend who didn't get a positive HPT until 25 DPO! (With her second baby, a test at 23 DPO was negative . . . but a test on 30 DPO was positive. Oddly enough, with #3, her positive test came at only 12 DPO.) If you get a negative test but think you might be preggo anyway, wait a couple of days (giving the hCG hormone time to build up) and try again. It's not over until the fat lady sings-- and your period crashes the party.
If you are not monitoring your fertility in any way (OPK's, charting cervical mucus or basal temperature, ultrasounds) it becomes extra-tricky. There are two parts to every menstrual cycle: from the start of your period to ovulation, which can vary quite a bit in length, and from ovulation to your next period, which is usually consistent in length. (This second half is known as the "luteal phase," and the normal range is 10-16 days. It's normal for your typical luteal phase to vary by a day or two. For example, mine is normally 11 days, but 10 and 12 are not unheard of either. I have also had a couple of longer ones by total fluke.)
Because ovulation can happen at any time, it's possible your egg was delayed for some reason (stress, illness, travel, excitement.) This doesn't mean your period is actually "late" (it could arrive within the normal 10-16 days after ovulation), but rather than your entire cycle was delayed due to a later-than-usual ovulation.

in november of 2004 i hadn't started yet and so i took 2 home pregnancy tests, only to find both were negative. the following week i still didn't start so i made appt with my doctor and he ordered a blood and urine pregnancy test, which both came back negative. a week and a half later i still hadn't started, so i took two more home tests which were negative. a week after that i was so nauseated i knew something was wrong and tried one more test and it came back positive!! in january, i had another appt with my doc and when he did the ultrasound, he told me i was approximately 3 months, and everything was fine. ultimately, however on valentines day (my next appt) i found out the babys heart was not beating and i had to go into the hospital to have him naturally. it was devastating to say the least, and im not telling you this to try to scare you, but everything happens for a reason, and it just shows you that sometimes a womans intuition can overpower what any doctor (or test ) tells you!!! good luck with everything!

Yes!!! I went to the doctor because I was feeling very lethargic. The doctor gave me a preg test which came back neg. He concluded that I had a bladder infection and perscribed anti-biotics. A week later I was still feeling lousy and went back in. After a second pregnancy test, I found out I was indeed expecting and had a 10 pound baby boy. This was all after being told I would never be able to conceive!!!

Yes, i did actually, and I ended up having a miscarriage. Apparently I was 3 weeks into the pregnancy when I was hit with double ear infection, a sinus infection, and bronchitis. It was nasty. My doctor was out of town and I went to urgent care so that i didn't end up with pneumonia. They did a urine test it came up negative. They put me on heavy antibiotics. A few days later my period came. I thought nothing of it, since I was due. It was an abnormally heavy period, so i went to the doctor. They did a blood test. She came back saying. I just had a miscarriage because of antibiotics I was on. Oh I was pissed like you wouldn't believe.

yes, it can happen. and actually it happened to me with my second pregnancy it took two months to show on hpt's at home and at the gyn. I was sick with fever and lower abdominal pain. all dr kept saying different thing they even thought that I had an std. Thank God I have never had one. they prescribed antibiotics, ofcourse I never took them since the u/s before showed that I was pregnant but the dr. didn't want to tell me it was really the technician who told me that it looked like I was. and so I took care of myself. And my boy is turning 9 today.
Thus keep your hopes up and don't ever give up. It took me three years and lots of faith.
Good luck

It appears like your prego! The health facility has better than possibly given you a pretend unfavorable, yet only to verify i'd ask for a blood attempt and an exam. take care and sturdy luck.
