I've heard this mostly in historical films used.

They would say something like, "The enemy has 1000 crack rifles facing against us" or "They were attacked by crack troops of the 4th division" something like that.

What does this term mean exactly?

Thank you.

I am a moderate democrat that loves his country and miltary service. I support all my military brothers and sisters but find it hard to be a moderate in the military. The military only sees the money it gets from republicans instead of the future of military. Yes I mean the quigmire in Iraq.
No I do not support homosexuals in the military and not all Democrats are liberal pro homosexuals trying to bring down "good old fashioned values".
So how can I talk to extreme right wing brainwashed miltary folk who only see dollars.

I saw on the Military Channel last night a group of US troops in Iraq who were about to be ambushed & could see insurgents running around with AK-47s & RPGs & all they could do was watch them! How in heck do you win a war with those kind of rules? I can see how many people feel that the cowardly Dems, lib media & Moveon.org hurt the troops in Iraq but if those same troops can't even fire on the terrorists/insurgents when they want to, how the hell are they suppose to win the war?

if it wasn't for the influece USSR Math and science would never be on the SAT. Americans thought that if the Russians were smart then their kids must be. also if it weren't for thier influences our military probably wouldn't be as advance. Our military grew as a result of fear of a military invasion by the Soviets. Our military constanty tried to be better than the Soviets. Don't forget about al those cool "Democracy vs. Communism" movies. Like From Russia with Love and some other classic Bond films.

I am now in the navy and am signed up for the nuclear field. I am very happy with my decision, but I do not leave for basic until February 6. I asked my recruiter for an earlier ship date, but he said it is very hard to do. Does anyone know why this is? Most people that sign up are sent out right away. I was just curious as to why this is?
