if it wasn't for the influece USSR Math and science would never be on the SAT. Americans thought that if the Russians were smart then their kids must be. also if it weren't for thier influences our military probably wouldn't be as advance. Our military grew as a result of fear of a military invasion by the Soviets. Our military constanty tried to be better than the Soviets. Don't forget about al those cool "Democracy vs. Communism" movies. Like From Russia with Love and some other classic Bond films.

I don't think it would make too much of difference today. Terrorist were there before the USSR fell and were looking for a chance to strike.

Our military will still advance, because unlike the USSR, our corperations comete against each other trying to provide the best.

Military training standards are still high because we do have an enemy, so there is no real difference except we focus on asymetrical war instead of linear war as we did with the USSR.

I think you are right on the movies. I liked movies where there was a bad guy, today movies are all about how the US government is the badguy. These Anti-War movies coming out today suck. I was sorry I was forced to watch some on a recent flight. I'm not saying not to make anti-war movies, but make a decent one atleast.

Yes with out a doubt we would be better off. A nation needs a strong enemy in order to be at its best. When the Soviets were around we started up a space program, we came up with the internet, we build the interstates. as a nation we had our shot group tight because we knew we had to.

Now with the Soviets gone, lets look at what we have accomplished. We have become a nation of political correctness. Rather than becoming better at Science we have debates on wether evolution or creation should be taught in schools. We have not really made any new breakthroughs in technology compared to the cold war, and best of all our nation is dividied big time.

During the Cold War there were two "bullies" on the play ground, and they tended to keep each other in check. With the fall of the Communist bloc the United States embarked on a series of expansionist if not imperialistic moves. Bush would not have tried to take out Iraq after 911 because the USSR would have had strong words for him that they could have backed with any necessary force.

the answer is no. ronald Reagan made his tenure in office about the downfall of the USSR. every president has an agenda, and this was his. USSR was too powerful, with a complete 180 degree view from the world of democracy. the quick answer is no, it would not be better for us because having the USSR dismantled creates a stronger balance of power. However, people in Russia might disagree, many of them prefered communist times to present times...a capitalist russian society has hurt many of them int erms of being able to find employment, a good living, and healthcare....it's been rough over there for many people....

Communism is a centrally-planned government which fails every time, I'm sorry but it would be bad for society. I know they brought good stuff, but in the long run they fail.
