yes it is very common infact having that degree can effect your bonus enlisting rank and so forth i also agree with one of the other answers on here many officers are prior enlisted two of my previous commanders have been along with a great deal of warrant officers. enlisted and officer are two different worlds get some more questions with some details and get answers from both sides jobs experiences...physical labor differ between the two hope this helped

There are quite a few enlisted with college. A lot of the ones I know/knew joined for the a loan repayment program the Army had (I don't know if they still do), after college without planning to join before they started school. Quite a few get commissions later through the OCS program.
The officers that that go through ROTC and similar programs planned to join the military all along.

honestly all the great officers i have met were prior enlisted (switched over) i have a great respect for both prior enlisted and warrent officer and/or commissioned officers but the difference is responsibility and mission not to sound greedy but check w/ a recriuter and they will explain benefit & pay differences that may help ur decision best of luck

I have a friend who when in with a B.S. in Computer Science about 2 years ago, he just made E-5 but he will probably be in officer within a year (he is working on it and it looks like it is going to happen). When my dad was drafted, he was had a B.S. in Pharmacy (and a license). He was did his 2 years and left as a Corporal. I know several Chiefs who have B.S. degrees, so it does happen.

Officers are just paper pushers. Very few of them actually get out and do things like the enlisted get to do. I've talked to many officers (now out of the military) who said their job was boring. I was enlisted and I had more fun than most officers.

Yes it is, and usually the come in, in the pay grade E-4. If you have ROTC you will become an officer in most cases. You can get better info from a recruiter.

It happens on occasion. Mostly people with general degrees like bachelor of science or poor GPA's.
