During the American Revolution, France was ruled by King Louis XVI. Napoleon did not take power until 1799.

Napoleon was unable to defeat Great Britain; any chance for an invasion of England was ended with the Royal Navy's victory at Trafalgar in 1805.

France was a land power under Napoleon, but the Royal Navy was dominant on the seas and a sea power will almost always defeat a land power.

Britain is an island, even Hitler couldn't make it over the 18 miles of sea,140 years later. That's why I am so baffled about the fear of the USA to be "invaded".
