Only congress can institute a draft. Just like any other law it would have to be signed by the president.

It could be executed in a number of ways. it could go alphabetically or by birth date, or by a "lottery" system. But it is done however congress chooses.

I wouldn't worry about a draft. The US has created a military class to our fighting for us, this helps cut down on the protests. If a draft was reinstated, it is likely that the young people that would be the cannon fodder for the wars would rise up and protest like they did in the 60's.

the president of the United States has the power to call on it...but it must be approved by congress. further, congress has the ability to call on it. if you pay attention though, ironically republicans DONT want a return of the draft. every senator in congress that does think a return of the draft is a good idea is democrat....

however if a draft were ever re-instated here's how it would work. it would be done in lottery form. every day of the year would be given a number 1-365. the birthdays and random numbers would be placed into two different drums. when it came time to pull a number a representative would pull out a random birthday from drum #1 and a random number from drum #1. for example, if i reached in and pulled out august 10th and the number 266. then it means that all men of that birthday would be drafted in the 266th position after everyone from 1-265 were already called. this would be repeated until everyone had a "draft number". now, they would start with young men at age 20. after the 20 year olds were drafted then they would go to 21, then 22, 23, 24, and 25. after 25 if they STILL needed more people, they would draft the 18 and 19 year olds. many people think that they will draft till 32, but according to www.sss.gov, (the selective service) website, once you reach 26, they will leave you alone. there was too much chaos during vietnam and they don't want to do that high ages anymore.....

Greetings. at present only the president can do anything. Congress and the senate are totally under his control. The draft would force into involuntary servitude mainly people, (now both male and female) from 18 to whatever age the president chooses. if things go badly, as they will, he can then lower and/or raise the age to whatever he wants. The president will decide when to initiate the draft and the tame congress and senate traitors to our nation will simply rubber stamp his decree. Registration is already begun in the Post offices across the country on ones 18th birthday. How it works is the government chooses who they want to draft, usually by race or religious belief, wealth or political connections. you get draft notice, you go to take a physical, which you will pass of course, and be notified when to report for your term of slavery to the state. Draftees generally are used when a war needs more troops then are dumb enough to enlist voluntarily. Drafted troops are generally poorly trained and suffer higher casualty rates and get killed more frequently then better trained regular troops. in combat usually treated as expendable of course and sacrificed to protect more valuable regular troops. But the draft will not be put in force until the president declares himself dictator. would be a very bad political move for him at present.

Well the constitution bans the draft to an extent, they pay it no never mind aswell as with all of our other rights tho.draft works by selecting people who have registered with them. Basically if you want a Job or one that pays good u have to sign up for the selective service. the selective service is the one who draws up people to serve in any of the branches of the military. Even in a world thats supposed to be against sexist only males are drafted.

edit - the ones which are in support of the draft are the democrafts not republicans, cause their belief is if everyone had to serve than wars such as the iraq war would not have occured or we would have withdrawn sooner.

Conscription is a power of the Congress to foster its ability to raise and support an army as defined in Article One, Section Eight of the U.S. Consitution. A bill introduced last year by Congressman Rangel of New York would do exactly that. It hasn't even received a committee hearing and is unlikely to get any further in the legislative process.

It has to be approved by congress, every one that becomes 18 should do 3 years. when you are drafted you would spend 9 weeks at basic training then 8 weeks at AIT advance individual training

Congress.

When you turned 18 you should have registered for the draft.

If they do it like they did during 'Nam it's a lottery, and not one that you want to win.
