Does anyone know of any organizations that allow people currently serving in the military to apply for jobs early so that they have a job already secured on the date of an honorable discharge.

My BIL is in the National Guard and told us that the troops in Iraq had asked Starbucks to send them some coffee and they refused to do it even after they offered to pay for it. Has anyone else heard of this...did it actually happen? I'd really like to know.

I definitely know that infantry, artillery, armor, and SF are the most dangerous in the Army, along with anyone who pilots or rides choppers in Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm trying to see what my safest bets are if I do decide to try out for Army OCS.

there are many books out on the war in Afghanistan and Iraq
both for and against... you could kill others or be killed yourself or maybe a family member... wouldn't it be wise to be informed and educated about it?

Why would someone blindly follow what their government is promoting?

Have you ever heard of PROPAGANDA for the military establishment?

On Monday, February 19, 1945, U.S. Marines hit the sands of Iwo Jima.

More US Marines earned the Medal of Honor on Iwo Jima than in any other battle in US History.

In 36 days of fighting there were 25,851 US casualties (1 in 3 were killed or wounded).

Of these, 6,825 American boys were killed. Virtually all 22,000 Japanese perished.

American air forces pounded Iwo in the longest sustained aerial offensive of the war.
"No other island received as much preliminary pounding as did Iwo Jima."
. . . Admiral Nimitz, CINPAC

Incredibly, this ferocious bombardment had little effect. Hardly any of the Japanese underground fortresses were touched.

Twenty-two thousand defenders of Japanese soil, burrowed in the volcanic rock of Iwo Jima, anxiously awaited the American invaders.
Almost one hundred thousand men would fight on a tiny island just eight square miles. Four miles by two miles. If you're driving 60 miles an hour in your car, it takes you four minutes to drive four miles. It took the Marines 36 days to slog that four miles. Iwo Jima would be the most densely populated battlefield of the war with one hundred thousand combatants embraced in a death dance over an area smaller than one third the size of Manhattan island.

You say you were in the Marines so...
Where did you go to bootcamp?
What was your MOS?
Where did you get recruited from?
Did you serve a full term?
Did you serve overseas? If so where and when?
What was your unit? Where were you stationed?
Why did you join?
Why do you ask so many anti-war questions?
Why do you hate our troops?
What medals and ribbons do you have?
What was your rank?
Please answer these simple questions. If you were A Marine then you wont have a problem answering them. I know you are out there. Dont take all day or I will be certain you are a fake.
Dont the rest of you guys think this is fair??
Oh and whats the Marine Corps Birthday?

As an Army brat and law student I am pretty familiar with Army JAG, but I still have a few questions I would like answered by someone more knowledgeable, that is not a recruiter.
1) As a JAG, what are my chances of being sent to Iraq? What if I am also Airborne and Ranger qualified, how much would that increase my chances?
2) If I were to be deployed to Iraq, how long would my tour be?
3) There are about 10 domestic bases (Fort Lee, Fort Hood, Fort Lewis, Fort Bragg, Fort Carson, Fort Eustis, Fort Belvoir, Fort Monroe, Fort Meyer, Fort Story) I would not mind being assigned to and I would not mind being assigned to Germany or Italy either. What are the chances I would get one of these locations as my first assignment? How likely is it that I could spend 10 years in and only be assigned to these locations?
4) How many hours a week does a JAG really work?
5) How hard is it to get assigned to Airborne and Ranger school as a JAG?

Thanks for the help guys.

..I forgot to say that I'm a first year colege here in the Philippines..I'm also an officer of the Army Reserve Command..I wanted to join either the Philippine Air Force or the Philippine Army(I like the Army best)..I have met lots of Officials from the army, especially during our camp tour, and they say I have a good briefing, courageos and all other stuffs..only,they always add something about my height..it doesn't bother me though, what my problem really is that my whole family, especially my father, doesn't want me to..he says I'm a girl and so does the rest of our family..they strongly believe that ladies should act the way they should..this is really my dream and I've done my best to show I can, only, they don't understand how much I want this..they always tell me that I have no future if I join the Army..that the military is not for me..I'm a Political Science student and planning to proceed to law..but,I really want to be in the battlefield..

Many of the hometowns of the war dead aren't just small, they're poor. The CNN News analysis found that nearly 75% of those killed in Iraq came from towns where the per capita income was below the national average. More than half came from towns where the percentage of people living in poverty topped the national average. No rich people from expensive areas joined the military.
