there are many books out on the war in Afghanistan and Iraq
both for and against... you could kill others or be killed yourself or maybe a family member... wouldn't it be wise to be informed and educated about it?

Why would someone blindly follow what their government is promoting?

Have you ever heard of PROPAGANDA for the military establishment?

No i wouldnt, becuase the moment my country enters a war my butt is all over it researching it, so when i get my orders to deploy i already know whats up. whether the war is illegal or water some people call it, you know what, i dont care, ill go fight becuase after all someones got to be over there fighting so that we dont get invaded or what not. Remember there is a diffrence between a civlian and a service member, a service member(sadly not all some go AWOL) will sacrifice for his country and the civilians will show some support(sadly not all, dam hippies). Oh and remember if your in the military you dont have a say in whether or not you go to war, if ur told to go you WILL go, because if you dont guess what, you go to jail and there is also those words i was told when i enlisted the Army"you will report to duty on.......... if you do not report on the specified date you will be considered AWOL and will face criminal charges and be dishonorably discharged and also at a time of war it is possible for you to face the DEATH PENALTY for refusing to deploy" thats why there is nothing a service member can do about it no matter how much he or she reads.
Also what makes you think they dont reserach? They know they may die or loose a limb or more, TRUST ME they read alot about the subject.

ARMY HOOAH!!!!(its an Army thing)

A much better use of my time would be training to keep me and my buddies safe. Political lectures were good for the old Soviet Army, but survival on the battlefield takes precedence in my mind. I don't know anyone who "blindly follows what their government is promoting", those I do know follow the orders of their legally appointed superiors, because thats what service in the military requires. Fortunately most of the members of our military are much more intelligent than you appear to be and are not taken in by political propaganda.

Maybe it's in spite of the propaganda in the MSM. Maybe it's because they can see through the BS.

If you're in the military and your orders come up to go, guess what, your going! Unless you are a moron, and loser, that lets your fellow troops down by being cowardly and not following orders.

I can't believe what you're saying. It's loathsome. Are you insinuating that people joining the military can't read>? By and large they are better educated and smarter than you could ever imagine.

Be thankful that these young and not so young, educated American Soildiers are willing to fight to keep you safe to make such foolish comments.

If you don't believe that, there's nothing I can say to convince you.

Well, I've got 2x Master's degrees and an IQ of 150. Oh yeah, I speak four languages, and am fluent in two.
No, I'm not a Kerry poster-child by any means.
Warfare was my PROFESSION, my friend. It was expected that my spare time was spent, not only perfecting my skills, but studying the nature of warfare.
This may also come as a surprise, considering the somewhat snotty tone of your question, but many troops in all services considered the Iraq war poorly conceived.

Yeah, I was educated. I trained with my unit for months before we went. I learned Farsi and spent many hours studying my assignments. Oh, wait, do you mean college? Yeah, I went there too. Trust me, my friend, we all know what we are doing, so relax, its our job to go wherever they may need us, we are not blindly following anything.

Have you ever heard of HONOR? Apparently not.
