I definitely know that infantry, artillery, armor, and SF are the most dangerous in the Army, along with anyone who pilots or rides choppers in Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm trying to see what my safest bets are if I do decide to try out for Army OCS.

if your going to OCS u have no say were your going to end up. but like someone posted above me, chances are your going to be infantry or some type of combat arms. I dont think OCS is for you, an officer is not supposed to be afraid, remember an officer leads from the front, that means your going to be the 1st one off that chopper or APC wich means your going to be the 1st one getting shot at, if you want to be safe in the Army then dont become an officer, just stay enlisted and pick a MOS thats not dangerouse, recruiting, cook, many many more. Also the Army and Marines are not branches you join if your afraid of gettin hurt. Maybe look into the Air Force(not spec ops) or the Navy(not the SEALS), these 2 branches are very powerful and yet have a smaller death rate than the Army(unless your a medic). Remember the Army has the most fatalities from all the other branches so im not sure if your in or about to join the right branch for you. btw ARMY HOOAH!!!!

Thats probably the most naive question I have seen on here. If you get a commission from OCS you will get one in Infantry, artillery or armor. Why?? because that is where the need is. The probability of you getting a commission in some other branch (not corps) is very, very small. If you just want to wear a uniform and strut around why not be a cop??? That is probably the safest job you can have in the US.

If this is the kind of question on your mind, you're not fit to lead soldiers. One of the qualities of an officer is audacity, and looking for the safest place to hide is the opposite of audacity. (I think it's called cowardice.) A true officer and gentleman would take a careful inventory of his skills and the needs of his country, and he would volunteer to serve wherever he could do the most good. Then he would probably be told to serve somewhere else, and he'd salute and execute anyway.

Besides, branch assignments for federal OCS are based on aptitude and the needs of the Army. ARNG might give candidates more say in branching, but I doubt the TACs would appreciate seeing, "Something safe, plz," on a dream sheet.

In today's battlefield environment, there really is no "safest" place anymore because any overseas camp or base can still subject to mortar attacks and such.

That said, if you're going to be in a bad situation you might as well make the best of it. Being inside the perimeter of a camp or base is always your safest bet - some of the people you might find there are medical, finance, logistics, intelligence, JAG, etc.

Don't join. This question says you are already planning on becoming a waste of space in a uniform. If you don't have the balls to sacrifice for your freedom... well the Army isn't for you.

For the people telling you to be a recruiter... it is not an MOS. The army chooses soldiers from all different MOSs to become recruiters. It is not a permanent position.

All can be dangerous, even finance have people assigned in Iraq. Someone has to give out the money. Mechanics work on equipment & etc., etc.

If you are asking a question like that, you don't deserve to be in the army.... you should be put wherever they feel like putting you in, and deal with it. face it, your serving your country. get used to it...
