Law Enforcement & Police - August 2007

I have a friend who is a Criminal Justice major and says that local police have the capability to scan local ip addresses to see if they are accessing websites that contain information on illegal activities. More specifically, he says that if the police were to "catch" you looking at a website that discusses how to grow marijuana, they can use it as probable cause to come to your house and ask questions. Maybe not search your house, but atleast come snoop. He specifically called it probable cause.

Now I am not a law expert, but this sounds rediculous to me.
Should I refrain from reading up on illegal activies for fear of being "looked into" by the local authorities?

I'm not talking about powers given by the Patriot Act. I know they can look into nearly any crevice they want in order to find "enemies of freedom" or "terrorists" or whatever. But I am talking about drug use/ cultivation/ anything illegal that is not a threat to national security.

my boyfriend and i was pulled over for expired reg. a few days ago. they found that i was in his car and had a restraining order against him. they cuffed and arrested him. the restraining order was ordered by my aunt when i was 17 and still a minor. i am now 18. how do i remove a restraining order placed by my aunt and how long will the process be? can anyone help.?

Cop wrote Wrong Letter in my DL# so when i search the la court website nothing shows up when i search from my DL #. All of my other info is correct but wrong DL and no Licence Plate because i was walking.I dont want to pay this $120.00 ticket. So what would happen if i dont?? Thanks!!

How do you get a Red Light Photo traffic violation removed?
I live in MN and I recieved a Red Light Photo ticket in the mail from TX, on a vehicle that I had sold over a year ago. How can I get this ticket removed if I don't know the current owner of the vehicle? Can the TX DA's office remove it because the police department there has been no help?


I do not have a bill of sale, I know the vehicle has been sold since I have sold it. I sent the TX department documentation showing that I have removed the title. The MN DMV also shows I am not the registered owner of the vehicle, I am just the last registered owner. The MN DMV state the vehicle has been sold to an unkonwn party. How am I still responsible?

One of my friends wrote on a CD about a missing person saying they're staying at a house and wrote a liscense plate number of a nearby car on it. He signed the name of a real missing person on it and someone found it. The police arrived at the house the next day asking about it. He doesn't live here, so they were not able to talk to him immediatly. What charges if any could he face?

I have never been in trouble with the law, but have always wanted to get cuffed up and tossed into the back of a cop car. This is nothing kinky or sexyal, but reather something I would like to experience. Does anyone know if a cop could do this for me or if it is against policy? my 14 yo son and two friends were charged with criminal possession of stolen property, one of the boys took mannequin pieces that were in someones yard laying against a dumpster( the owner verified that she had laid them by the dumpster) the boys then took the pieces two legs and a torso ( not even a whole mannequin) over to another friends house where they dressed the pieces and brought them to various friends houses, the police took 2 months to investigate the missing mannequin pieces. the boys believed these were garbage and they all told the police this in their statements, but they have been charged with criminal possession of stolen property , and they have to go to court next week, does anyone know what kind of sentence they can get? Do we need to get a lawyer?

i remember seeing a car chase on cnn headline news or msnbc where they were following a silver sedan and lost it on the highway for about 20 mins because there were similar makes out there, but i do think they got the license plate, if they didnt could someone get away like that? especially if they planned it out to have decoys around that area at the predetermined time? of course thats not too realistic considering most police chases tend to happen after an unintentional hit and run but what do you think how often do people get away,

they also mentioned people on motorcycles have a better shot because of the manueverability and of course the size, but not too many hit and runs with motorcycles i guess

Our laws are pretty messed up. We have a referee looking at up to 25 years for game fixing. Fixing a freaking basketball game/games!! A GAME. When murderers, Child molesters, repeat drunk drivers, theaves, robbers, etc. get a lot less than that?
Yes, I'm going to mention Michael Vick! He is looking at up to 5 years. He will serve time in prison whether it be 1 year or 3 years, for conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and conspiracy to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture. Huh? Are you freaking serious!? Let's not talk about the "illegal acts" our own government is doing as we speak! Give me a break, when is our judicial system really going to start working?
The system has never nor will it ever be fair. Politicians, Judges and our Lawmakers live by two sets of rules. The dividing line is measured in dollars.

3 weeks ago my cousin was arrested in Signapore for littering and refusing to provide details to the arresting law officer. Following his court appearnce, the judge sentenced him to 4 lashes of the rattan cane. He will be fixed in a bending-over position to a metal or wooden frame and is told to expect permanent scarring of the buttocks.The lashes will be carried out privately in a prison, with a prison officer and a medical officer. His lawyer tried to have the caning carried out in installments but the judge said he would have the entire sentence carried out at once. The persons carrying out the caning are specially trained prison officers who deliver the maximum force in each lash.

Of course my cousin is depressed about this. He is currently on release without passport but must report to a detention centre in September, 3 days before the flogging. He wants me to travel out to meet him and provide support. If I go, I will have to cancel my holiday in Ibiza. What will I do ?

I would like to know if I had my criminal record sealed by the court would the company be able to see a sealed record? or will nothing show up at all?

Also, if the record is sealed does this still retain the arrest record? Meaning if I have a sealed record, and I have an arrest for theft, will the employer be able to put two and two together?

I'm not sure if it made national news, but a woman in Mesa (suburb of Phoenix) beat up her 10 year old son in a Wal-Mart on August 12. Shoppers had to call 911 to report it. http://www.azcentral.com/community/mesa/articles/0817walmart0817.html

My question is, why didn't Wal-Mart's loss prevention step in and stop it? If it was two teenages having a fight, you better beleive they would have stopped it, and called 911. But Wal-Mart did NOTHING.

This was more than just a mother disciplining her child. According to witnesses in the store, it was violence. Wal-Mart released a statement saying they don't get involved in domestic disputes. But when the kid is bleeding, it's more than that.

Anyone think that Wal-Mart management should be penalized for refusing to get involved?

Like if you know for a fact that someone is a sexual predator (pretty close to the max in many ways) and let's say they are 40-ish
most likely do they have a police record or are these pervs pretty clever at hiding away w/out being caught?
