Having any alcohol as a minor is illegal unless with your parents in your home. That is the "Zero Tolerance Law." You could lose your license until your 21st birthday. I highly doubt that though. Maybe not at all, depending on all circumstances and the judge.

Ok sorry to be so blunt but you shouldn't be drinking if you don't know what your rights are to begin with. If you only had a sip then why would you even tell them you had any??? Trying to play the honest goody two shoes will not make them feel bad for you. The burden would have been on them to prove that you were drinking and a sip wouldn't have done much as you could have ingested that much alcohol simply by taking cough medicine. At this point, admitting that you did it is not going to send you to jail or anything, but you may lose your license for a certian amount of time and definately expect some community service and some sort of class. I hope you learned your lesson and how serious this matter is. You or someone elses life could have been at risk. Hope you take this lesson in and don't worry, you will be okay.

A "sip" is drinking. Don't try to rationalize it. You broke the law. As far as losing your license: Were you driving? Were you a passenger in a car? If answer is "yes" to either, then you can lose license for up to one year for first offense.
If you were not in a vehicle, but were drinking somewhere else, you can get a fine, some jail time if old enough, probation, etc., but it doesn't affect your license.

I can't say for sure... this all depends on a few factors
A). your age
B(, whether you were operating a motor vehicle at the time
C). Where you were
and
D). here's the BIGGIE the Judge, he ultimately makes the final say in it all... if you weren't behind the wheel at the time generally speaking they don't take your license from you, however they can give you a fine, probation (this is typical), community service (this is typical too) or even sentence you to rehab, they do this because they try and curb a potentially bad problem early on...

When it comes down to it, a sip is just as bad as drinking a 6 pack. They may go easy on you if this is your first offense or if they did a blood test and your blood alcohol level was extremely low. They want to teach you that drinking and driving do not mix.
I would be more worried about how much my insurance was going to go up.

you do not could desire to subject. what you experienced replaced into Police discretion. Defintion # considering the fact that no regulation or coverage can incredibly envision each accessible subject the police could bump into in the sphere, officers have flexibility in dealing with circumstances they bump into. Police discretion is the judgment officers use in the sphere, no count if it incredibly is letting somebody bypass after a stern lecture, or taking somebody to penitentiary for a minor offense because of the fact they could be a probability to themselves or others. -- element being, The officer you dealt with ask a questioned, you responded incredibly.

minor consumption includes "just a sip", just as minor possession includes "just holding a beer for your friend"..!! first alcohol related offense is usually a fine, community service, and teen alcohol counseling...second offense under the age of 21, even a "sip", could suspend/revoke your license UNTIL 21..!!

A sip or a gallon, it's still underage drinking.
