This is a sensitive situation: my mother is considering meeting/dating a man she met through a friend in Queens who was a lawyer in NY. He told her that he was "taken out of the lawyering game because of a disciplinary action" and told her nothing more than this. He does other work now. I did try searching for what might have happened with this guy on the NY State Bar Association site and I can see that he "was asked to leave the Bar because of a Disciplinary Action" but of course the site will not tell you anything more than this. The guy's explanation of a "business deal that had soured" does not ring at all true to me and of course I am concerned.

Does anyone know anywhere else I can go to find out more about this?

I contracted a company to ship my vehicle and the contract between us states that they are not responsible for interior damages or theft of after market accessories in the vehicle. The company then subcontracted the shipment to another company. The after market accessories were stolen and damages done to the interior of the vehicle. Is the contract still binding if I did not sign the contract with the subcontractor(third party). Who can I sue for this damages.

If you are married, and your spouse is financially destroying you, do you have any recourse as a spouse? My cousin's husband is self employed, got himself into major debt, kept it from his wife - tried to handle it on his own - it has spiraled out of control - he is being uncooperative, vague and secretive. 2 kids, one on the way - may lose the house. She doesn't understand the situation, can't get a grasp on what is going on - doesn't know where to start, or how she can 'save herself' -is divorce the only option - is there a lawyer that can help her while they are still married?

2) Do you know, or have you known,

a) 0 gay people

b) at least 1 gay person, but no gay couples

c) at least one gay couple

By "gay couple" I mean two gay or lesbian people living together, but not necessarily married.

Thanks for your replies! I have wanted to see this in the press, but never have so I thought I would ask it myself on Yahoo! Answers.

One more thing, I have heard a fair amount about civil unions in the news, but I do not understand the difference between a civil union, and a marriage in a courthouse. If you know the difference, or have an opinion, I would be very interested!

I fled from my husband to a women’s shelter a few weeks ago with my son. My husband was emotionally and verbally abusive to me and also has a few mental health conditions that he refuses to treat. I did not file a protective order because I thought and was told that I had to have a police report so therefore it had to be a physical act to get the protective order. Yesterday afternoon, I was served with a divorce decree, protective order and temporary restraining order. I live in a shelter now with my son. All of the statements that my husband wrote in the affidavit are distorted and twisted. He claims I hit him and the child, which I didn’t do. What can I do (besides get a lawyer involved cause I know I have to) to counter these claims? The protective order states that I have to hand over full custody of my son until the hearing which is next Friday (my birthday might I add). I am so distraught and confused. And, is it safe to say I hate him?
