My Best Friend was killed at a Party a few days shy of his 21st birthday. I live in BC, Canada. The person who killed him got 4 years for 'Manslaughter' and 2 of those years could be served on House Arrest. He was killed for dating a girl that the killers (There were 3 others aside from the girls ex) ex girlfriend.
Another situation... my friend, same town, different scene - local bar - accidentally fell into the pool table and moved someones balls. He was beaten up by 2 brothers and the bouncer dragged him outside and killed him with 1 punch. The brothers got off with 6 months and the Bouncer got Manslaughter and 3 years in jail. The bar was shut down.

If the act was not premeditated it is considered battery. Since the victim died then it is bumped up to manslaughter. The person could also be charged with assualt with a deadly weapon if the aggressor used more than his fists in the attack.

I don;t know what the usual sentence is in your state, but Aggravated manslaughter could carry a sentence of up to 10 years or more.

Depends upon how the local District Attorney will pursue the matter.
Could be manslaughter or murder charges (2nd degree)... it all depends upon how aggressive the DA wants to be.

Hopefully, he'll go to jail for a long time for an unwarranted and violent attack on a kid, but it's up to the prosecutors to decide the charges.

Most likely it will be prosecuted as 2nd degree murder. If the evidence is flimsy or controversial it could be negligent homicide.
If it is 2nd degree murder, he will probably be in jail 8-15 years with good behavior.
Negligent homicide 5-10 with good behavior.
Just guessing.

It'd be second degree murder and they would attempt to plea bargain that down to manslaughter; the amount of time would depend...

It depends on the guy's criminal record, if he has one. He will most likely get 15 years to life. If he already has a record, it will be longer.
Take care,
Troy
