As with any small nation -- they have sovereign power over their own territory -- and they have influence in their local region.

Because Israel is disliked by many of its neighbors -- it has perhaps more influence on events than most other small countries. But on a global scale, it's still a small player.

The fact that is might have nuclear weapons -- but that nobody has ever confirmed this -- just raises the stakes slightly.

They have power that is disproportionate to their size.
Economically they have a much more productive society than others in the region on a per-capita basis.
Because of the quality of their military, they can defeat any of their neighbors, or even several together despite the small size of both their armed forces and their military budget.
Politically they have a great deal of influence since as the only democracy in the region they get support internationally from other democratic nations.
In overall terms however they are still a small nation, and they face challenges from enemies, both at home and internationally that few countries could survive. As a result, much of the power that could otherwise be used for bettering their country and region is needed for withstanding the almost constant attacks against them.
By the way, they manufacture most of their armaments themselves, the amount they receive from the U.S. is only a fraction of that supplied to Arab countries.

Israel has the most powerful military in the region. All citizens, at one time, are required to serve in the military. All weapons and aircraft are supplied by the US. There have been many unconfirmed reports, but it is my belief that Israel does posses nuclear weapons.

They are our only ally in the middle east and they are surrounded by terrorists that want to destroy them. These are the same terrorists that attacked us on 9-11 and continue to try to destroy us. We supply Israel with weapons so that they can fight terrorists for us. We have the same arrangement with many other countries.

Yes because it is occupying land given to it by people who had absolutely no right to in the first place and this has upset the Arabs. Because of the holocaust, which was dreadful beyond belief, nobody is going to take it back from them because they would feel too guilty. Meanwhile, the rest of us pay the price because the Muslims aren't happy.
