My co-worker's son is currently waiting to go on trial but someone told her son that if he did not get his indictment within a certain time frame, all charges can be dropped. I want to know if this is true and what is the time frame?

no time limit... the attorneys will explain...or should already have done so.

I beleive that an indictment is the one of the first steps in prosecution. The statute of limitations would depend on the crime, some, like murder, do not have a statute of limitations. If the person hasn't been indicted yet, the prosecution hasn't begun the actual legal process yet and is probably still building their case and they can continue to do so until they feel they have enough evidence to move forward.
