Im due in a month and currently a working mom. I am the Assistant Manager and assigned to do several tasks for the company. My female boss, a Korean, doesn't want me to take a long maternity leave so she said I have to go back to work after week from my delivery. She said that if I intend to leave for a week more, I won't be given a pay for that second week of absence. Is this safe and legal?
What should I do?

This is a question about the McCann case but do you remember two days ago that there was enough EVIDENCE for a JUDGE in England to EXTEND the detention period for a further 12 hrs for questioning but that within hours Michael Barrymore was SUDDENLY allowed to go scot-free ("lack of evidence") ? When a case becomes too high profile and an embarasment, governments intervene and all involved will go free. THE MCCANN CASE ? Exactly, You just wait and see. The Portuguese High Court will decide there is lack of evidence, the McCanns will then be free to sell their story for millions !! -- PLEASE discuss. Thanks.

I just saw a news clip about politicians wanting to arm school teachers. I don’t know if they are liberals or republics but is this what things have come too. Its insane liberals have gone to great efforts to prohibit any form of corporal punishment which I think is fair in regards to schooling but parents have no rights to discipline their kids anymore. I personally wouldn’t like the idea of strange teachers having the right to hit my kids but parents have no rights either. Efforts for discipline are futile and adolescents seem to be out of control. Politicians have gone to efforts to alter discipline, but now these efforts have turned around and bit them on the butt. Instead of disciplining children in the beginning they are opting to shoot them at the end. What is this world coming to it seems completely crazy to me any thoughts or opinions welcome.

We hired a contractor to work on odd jobs for time and materials. The contractor has failed to account for his hours, but has billed us 200% of what he estimated the costs to be on a time and materials basis. We believe he is obligated to stay within 10-20% of his estimate, otherwise he could bill us for the moon (which wouldn't hold up in court). Can he file a lien if he has no signed contract with us?

i was in a few bands and wrote a bunch of songs, and was going to sign all of these songs over to my friend chris and my friend mike told me to sign them over to him. so i wrote up a contract stating that since i was moving that my friend mike could have all of the songs mentioned and so on. this is a handwritten contract between the 2 of us and his wife signed it as a witness. i never moved though, and i figured he would of ripped the contract up, but my question is, is that since it says im signing the songs over to him because im moving, and i didnt move, is this contract even valid? because i didnt move and that was the reason stated for signing this stuff over to begin with. can you help me here?? hahaha thanks
-mark

the contract basically just said that since i am moving, i will signing these songs over to my friend so and so. and it said the contract could be changed by either one of us once i returned. but i never moved. i dont think this contract is a valid contract at all.

The condo I live in regularly does servicing for the suites, like checking the fire alarms, making sure the sink isnt clogged, replacing air filter, etc...

But is there anyway to not allow them to enter your apartment unless you were inside? The apartment has the master key for all suites.

For the fire alarm, its by law that they need to make sure its working..

I am just creeped out that people are coming into my apartment and touching my things (cause no one is home when they are doing the servicing), and who knows if they will steal something valuable if its left around and easily accessible.

And I am more creeped out cause I found like a chalk carving (did it in class last year in a really really boring class - it looks ugly) broken in half in its original spot. I can just imagine some guy going oh look at that its so weird and broke it somehow. I think its like an invasion of privacy and I just dont feel comfortable with them coming in when and looking at my stuff!

A few weeks ago I asked where I could find the formula to calculate the minimum price of milk in California. I only got one answer, asking if it was a trick question. It is not a trick question, as the California Dept. of Food and Agriculture does set the minimum price of milk in order to ensure fair profit for the dairy farmers. Anyway, I'm posting again to see if I get any more answers. Thanks.

A couple of years ago I terminated my employment with well known aerospace company working in the middle east. My contract with them was construed under UK law. With that in mind does the data protection act still apply and if so am I entitled to a copy of ALL the personal files that company hold on me including my medical file with that company as they ran their own medical centre.

My 14 year old daughter's first assigment this year was a 9/11 project and they let the kids do anything they wanted, poem, picture, sculpture etc. She made a beautiful power point slide show of different 9/11 images and set it to Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA. She presented it to her class today (about 25 kids) and they applauded and her teacher gave her an "A". I was proudly telling a co-worker about it and they said that she could get in trouble for publicly using that song without permission. Can she? It seems like it wouldn't be any different than someone playing it on a CD player or something.

In may of this year i was working for an independent contractor. One thursday night I went to check my bank account before withdrawling cash from an atm and i noticed my paycheck from my boss had bounced causing my bank account to over draft. The next day i talked to him about it and he told me once he got paid on monday from the job we just finished he would make it right and pay the fines and two weeks of pay he now owed me. Well the next day on saturday he was in an accident putting him in the hospital for a month with 2nd and 3rd degree burns. The next day I ended up losing my part time job at Lowe's due to lay off. So all my income was cut off and I was 700$ in the hole. The only way for me to get out of debt was to go to my girlfriends mom. She loaned me the money and wants it back now. She runs her own buisness which i have been working for on the weekends. She still pays me what she owes me. But now I cant get my ex-boss to take or return my calls.

its a security guard company, we are not independent contractors we are legal employees of the company. They don't deliver on anything promised, they call in more workers than they need and send people home. They hire people promising them x hourly rate and them cut it. I can quit but that wont solve the problem for all of the other workers.
