In many developed contries, only China and Japan and U.S. have the death penalty. Not even Russia has one. I'm Japanese and against it. Here are main reasons.
1] Too many irreversible errors of misjudgements.
2] The rich can hire good lawyers but the poor can't.
3] The fairness of law tends to get lost when it's retaliatory.
4] Does nation have the right to kill its people?
5] A lack of information of the system of the death penalty.
6] A Wide range of humanity and knowledge of judges.
7] The death penalty doesn't seem to have the effects of prevention of crimes.
You can refer to "The Ultimate Punishment" by Scott Turrow for number 7.
There's saying in the Bible. "Vengeance is mine. I will repay." I don't believe in vengeance, but even if one does, why bother if the lord does that?
Arthur Schopenhauer said in "The world as will and idea" that law is for the future [prevention of crimes], not for the past [revenge] and I agree with him.

80% people are for it in Japan. Isn't it scary?

I recently discovered that my identity was stolen and several "instant" department store credit cards were opened in my name. Luckily, I caught on since I got all these new cards that I didn't request, reported it, and it is now under investigation.

Anyway, I'd like to know if the merchant has any liability in providing the cards outside of checking the ID of the perpetrator when they applied for the credit and processing the forms.

The person who did this had a fake ID with my info on it, but they provided a false telephone number (not even the correct area code) which I imagine would have raised a flag.

So, would it be prudent to go after the merchants that approved the cards? If so, what kind of law practice would do this type of thing?

where I live/own have been built on faulty foundation. One building has cracking walls to the point of water seeping into units. There are other structural problems with other buildings but that is the worst. They are going after the builder, within an allowed time limitation although any docs drawn up protect the builder. They were built in 2001 & are within a 6 yr. limitation. They have repeatedly asked the builder to fix the issues but they are refusing so it has gone into litigation.

Being as such laws do not descriminate between those who payed for the p0rn and those who did not reducing child exploitation is not a valid excuse. The only way they can tell such thoughts exist is by way of the p0rn so banning the p0rn is the most effective and the only feasable way of banning the thought. Such laws enable persecution for thought crime violations and condition people for further criminalization of thought. isn't it wrong that thought is crime in america today?

I had the MOST obnoxious solicitation call the other day.

When I told him I'm on the Do Not Call list - he told me I couldn't be. So I told him to take me off his company's call list - he said he couldn't do that. Finally I inisited that he connect me to a manager - I believe they are required to do that? - and it took 15 minutes of arguing to get him to give me a name and number to call.

Before I call and chew out his boss I want to make sure I'm right on a couple things:

1) Is there still a Do Not Call listing?
2) When you request removal from a phone list, doesn't the law currently say the company must remove you?
3) I seem to recall that sometimes the regular people can't remove you, but that they all can connect you with a manager who can - is this right?

I want to be sure of myself in case it takes another 15 minutes of yelling to get my point across ... Thanks!

I have recently been 'let go' from a job I really enjoyed, because a guy on my team (**** licking the boss, who's best mate, also on the team was sh*gging the boss) made a complaint about me, for his own amuzement. He admitted to me that it was all for a laugh/joke to get me into trouble. The so-called boss and teamleaders refused to speak to me and instead of punishing the 21 yr old **** licker, they de-activated my workcard so that I couldn't even get into the building and told the agency to sack me. This is Barclays by the way....no wonder they're shipping to India.

A month ago I was waiting behind a truck to make a right. I had my foot on the brake. The driver of the truck realized she was sticking out too far into oncoming traffic, so she backed up a little- just enough to hit the front of my car (I have a witness).

My front bumper was only scratched, but the back of her truck had a dent & paint damage on it (how do I know some of it wasn't there before?) The woman angrily said, "Look what you've done!" She was convinced that I hit her, and demanded my info so I could pay her back. Because I'm only 17 she felt pity so she didn't take down my license plate# and said she wouldn't do it thru insurance. I agreed that this was a good idea 'cuz even though she was at fault, it would appear that I hit HER. I agreed to pay her cash so she wouldn't sue.

I hadn't heard from her since & thought she lost my info, but today she called when I was in school. I don't have much $ but she knows my name & address. I don't want to pay. What should do? Plz Help!

My friend is getting ready to fo through a nasty divorce. She moved out of the marital home, but has come back a few times to get things. She went in last night and found a document that stated she was prohibited from taking anything from the house or making harassing phone calls. We both think it's not legit, but aren't sure. Wouldn't she have to be served in person at work or home? Wouldn't it at least have the state seal on it? Doesn't she have a right to take anything she wants from the house?

I heard that by May of 2008 everyone in the United States will be required to have a "mark of the beast" in either card form, or placed in your body. I assume it's an RDIF chip. My friend heard it from his sister the other night on a Christian show. Anyone know anything else about this...?

Suppose some man negligently (NOT INTENTIONALLY) gives a table spoon of some poisonous liquid to drink his 4 year old son assuming it a cough syrup.Later that 4 year old child DIES because of it.
Bottle of cough syrup was quite similar with the outlook of bottle of that poisonous liquid. That man did not read the label outside the bottle negligently.
What punishment by law can be given to such negligent act of that kind of father?(India)

Hypothetical Q.

Pretend for a minute that I was the head of a social/academic club and we decided to have a fundraiser. In this fundraiser, for each credit card form that was completely filled out, we received $5 from the company. We had 250 forms. I passed them out to my 25 member group (10/person).

Some of these came back with no SS# on them and others with no signature. There were about 20 in all that were incomplete but only on one or 2 lines.

On the incomplete ones, I made up social security numbers and forged a couple of signatures? Is that legal? If not, what is the crime? penalty? statute of limitations?

Thanks. Just curious.
