My girlfriend is 15 years old. They verbally abuse her constantly. She is not allowed to see me, her friends or anyone else. Her parents only allow her to leave the house for school. Or if her and her parents are going together or if she is with her family members to do errands or watch the kids.

Her parents also make her work all day. She has to clean things, watch the dog. She has to watch the kids when family is over all the time. She has to get her parents Ice for there glasses etc. She is kept from her homework, and stays up till 12-4 am on school nights working. She has been in pain from doing work before and is forced to continually work or will be 'kicked out'.

About a year ago she got introduced to drugs and her parents not only let her drink but bought her alcohol on several occasions. She no longer does it thank god but still, I know that is against the law.

I dont know if this is legal or not, and want to know if it is in the state of California, what should I do? Thanks

I was visiting a friend in the Lower East Side area of NYC with an associate. We decided to take a trip to the rooftop of his building to take some pictures of the view. Two undercover officers showed up later, arrested us, and charged us with trespassing. We had no idea it was illegal to be on the roof, but there is a sign downstairs in the lobby that states it is in fact illegal. So, my arraignment is tomorrow morning. I am going through interviews with big financial firms right now, and I'd hate to have something like this on my record... though if I plead NOT GUILTY, I'd have to show up in court on another date and attempt prove my case with evidence to the contrary. I don't have anything besides "I'm sorry, I didn't know I wasn't allowed to be up there". My associate wants to plead NO CONTEST to get it over with, but I'm worried about this silliness showing up on my record in backgrond checks. I don't know what to do :( I don't have a history, and don't want one. What do I do?

As a journalism major, my knowledge of libel does not extend past that of what people in the newsroom can do. However, if I am acting as an individual, with no affiliation with the newspaper, can I be sued for libel if I write a letter to the editor warning students about the conditions of the units my landlord is trying to rent. I am a student, and I live in a city where the landlords get away with murder because they're dealing with uninformed students. However, this time it got personal. My landlord, who I rented from for 6 months prior to moving into this unit, refuses to fix the water seeping from the ceiling into our unit. The city has inspected four times and has issued citation after citation. She still won't fix it. Now that I am about to get out because of all the bugs and mold the water is causing, she's trying to keep my deposit. Can I write a letter to the editor exposing her and be sued for libel? I know my defense would be the statements are true, but could she sue me?

A legal suit is to be filed. Advocate is talking about buying a stamp. First he said he will buy, so I send him money. Now he say I or my power of attorney should buy it. I travel with my job so have to make time for all this or assign Power to someone to d all this.

Please can someone tell me what are the true steps for suit filings and where in laws is this all written? Who is to buy stamp for filing suit - advocate or plaintiff, or someone else?

Thanking very much in advance.

I live in Wisconsin, though I know of a couple of other states that have a law that if your barn is damaged by forces of nature, old age, or by anything else, you cannot tear down nor rebuild it. If you want or need the use of a barn, that one has to stay and you have to build somewhere else.

I want to know why this law is there and how it became a law. You would think that the county/state would want the eyesores to be gone, right?

I am a U.S. citizen and a citizen in U.K (bcz i was born there) and I'm seventeen years old. My parents are strictly muslim, however I don't have the same beliefs. They have always forced these beliefs on me. I have performed at my high school last year (singing and dancing) with my best friend. everyone loved us so much, they are anxious to see our next performance which is in two weeks. People say I'm also very talented in writing and acting.
If my parents find out, they'll surely make me a high school dropout..or transfer me to an islamic school. Can they do that? Can they make an airplane ticket for me and take me to Bangladesh against my will and get me married? I noe there's no laws protecting me in Bangladesh. But can my parents force me to leave this country and make me skip school for months or possibly make me a high school dropout? [if anyone suggests a lawyer for me...can you tell me where to find one?] (the legal age of divorcing my parents in this state is 17)

outside my home while we were visiting a friend, my daughter was subjected to an interview conducted by CPS. I was all for it, but now I think it may have been a mistake. The caseworker decided to drop the charges against the other person, but she also asked my daughter if myself and her dad ever fight. She told them that sometimes we argue. Now they want to open a case against me for arguing in front of my children.

Now we argue ocassionally and unfortunately sometimes the kids over hear it, but does that really constitute abuse or even the need to investigate. I am appalled at how serious the orginial investigation was and how irrevelant the current one is. Does anyone know what I need to do at this point? The investigation hasn't actually started, but has been referred to a different department within CPS.

First off let me say this, I think our "Family" laywer is a dirty laywer, working for the other side. I allways thought this, but my dad is best friends with this guy (in a bisness sence, no social thing) and swears by him. Recently I got in some trouble at school, basically some one took something, then said me and him did it together. So they (school Assistant principal and Officer) started questioning me, then paused and asked my age (16 for 2 more weeks), then continued to question me, never asking if I wanted my mother or dad there, nor a lawyer.

I was at my dads talking to our "Lawyer" and I told him what I just said, about the asking my age and what not, and he said we could sue them because they cannot question a minor with out a parent, gaurdian, or lawyer there.
I persinally think he just wants me to try and sue them, so they can counter sue me for a whole list of things, and I think they hired him to get me to sue them.. so is that illegal to question me with out parent

I'm launching a new comedy website at TeleSpank.com, and in this episode I pretended to be a senile old man. In it I decided to voice my distaste for Branson, to humorous effect. So, am I allowed to say such things when I'm acting as a character? Or do I have to bleep the word "Branson" out, "to be safe"? (I'd rather not, to keep the integrity of the gag.... but I figure I should ask around...)

I think he is using crack/cocaine. I called CPS. The cops said they can't do anything-I've been through the courts a million times they don't care-he has used in the past which I told them. Sooo what the heck do I do-I'm so upset and don't know where to go anymore. State law says that it is only child abuse if child is present during manufacture of methamphetamine or phyncyclidine or if the child suffers bodily injury as result. Is this crazy or what? What happened to protection of children -Oh it's the fathers right huh?!! Please lets do something about this-only in DC is it child abuse to expose the child to drug-related activity. In 8 states it is when selling, distributing , or giving drugs or alcohol to child is child abuse. I could tell you all of them but I sure you really don't care.. I guess the laws are saying my daughter has to be physically hurt in order for it to be considered neglect..well lets hope that the state doesn't allow this to happen.

my ex is lying to me saying that he payed child support..i phone the government agency that handles child support that i deal with and they said that he hasn't made a payment since mid - april..i confronted my ex about this and he still lied to my face saying that he paid it..until i said that he's lying and i called the agency..finally he admitted it saying that it was because i didn't pay him back for money that i owed him, despite the fact that it was for his son.. and he continued to say that i have no reason to be upset with him..that he was trying to 'teach me a lesson'..do i have a right to be upset about this and does anyone out there feel that i should have to pay him money back that he gives me for his son? he doesn't pay the correct amount for child support..he claims he only makes $8 hr at his job..meanwhile he makes $15..i haven't said anything to that agency because i'm not after his money, but i don't think he has a right to expect me to reimburse money used for myson

I heard people say this for years. It seems the ones who have tried to "legally" not pay, have been spanked, sometimes quite harshly. I can't find any evidence to support this "illegality", but I am certainly no authority.
Is it just that in this country the crackpots have a right to speak, as well?
